Reynard Motorsport to Build Wind Tunnel in North Carolina MOORESVILLE, NC, 25th October 1999 - Reynard Motorsport Inc. has joined with Penske Performance, Inc. to construct and manage a purpose built wind tunnel facility in Mooresville, NC, for development of NASCAR race cars and trucks for the Winston Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck Series. Reynard Motorsport Inc., which built a very successful aerodynamic Auto Research Center in Indianapolis and supplied the designs and technical support for British American Racing's new wind tunnel in Brackley, England, will now construct a facility which is focused on the special requirements of NASCAR. The design of this new facility will contain features so that performance of the models more accurately reflects full-scale cars for oval racing conditions. The full specification will not be announced until the tunnel opens in approximately 12 months. Roger Penske, who will be a partner and co-investor in the project, said, "Reynard has an unequalled expertise in designing wind tunnels for testing up to 50% scale models. The results speak for themselves. Their cars have dominated Champ Car racing for the last five years and they have done the same this year in Formula Nippon, where the cars are nearly as fast as current Formula One cars. We believe this technology will be useful in NASCAR racing because it is more cost effective to test models in the wind tunnel than experiment with full size cars at the track. All competitors can use the Auto Research Center on a confidential and economic basis so they can include wind tunnel development in their testing programs." Adrian Reynard commented, "Roger understands the importance of wind tunnels as they have been one of the technologies contributing to his performance results over the past 30 years. I'm delighted he has decided to invest in this facility with us. We believe that this new Auto Research Center will give teams another resource to gain an edge in the intensely competitive of NASCAR."
