Exide NASCAR Select Batteries 400
Stewart Wins First
Well, it was bound to happen. Rookie Tony Stewart claimed his first ever win in the Winston Cup series in his 25th career start. Stewart was able to hold off teammate Bobby Labonte by 1.114 seconds to win the Exide NASCAR Select Batteries 400 at Richmond International Raceway. Stewart dominated the event, leading 333 of the 400 laps. Stewart becomes the first driver to win in his rookie season since Davey Allison in 1987. Stewart also moved into fourth place in the Winston Cup point standings.
Skinner on Richmond Pole
Mike Skinner outdistanced the field in qualifying for the Exide NASCAR Select Batteries 400 and won the pole position at Richmond International Raceway. Skinner's fast lap of 21.520 seconds, at 125.465 mph, set a new event record. Rookie Tony Stewart will start along side of Skinner on the front row, while Rusty Wallace and Bobby Labonte start from row two.
