Bobby Labonte Wins Pepsi 400
Bobby Labonte won for the fourth time this season by outdistancing Jeff Gordon and the field
in the Pepsi 400
presented by Meijer at the Michigan Speedway. The win is Labonte's 11th in his Winston Cup career
and edges him closer to the second spot in the point standings. Dale Jarrett finished fourth
and now leads Mark Martin by 314 points in the chase for the Winston Cup championship.
Ward Burton Grabs Michigan Pole
Ward Burton grabbed his sixth career pole position, taking the inside front row starting
position for
the Pepsi 400 at Michigan Speedway. Burton will start from the top spot for the first time in
37 races. With Burton's lap of 38.127 seconds, at 188.843 mph, Jeff Gordon's track record of
186.945 mph didn't stand a chance. Mike Skinner will start from the outside pole, while points
leader Dale Jarrett and Geoffrey Bodine make up row two.
