Brickyard 400
Jarrett Wins Second at Brickyard
Dale Jarrett becomes the second repeat winner of the Brickyard 400, joining Jeff Gordon as the
only two-time winners. Jarrett was strong all day, dominating
the event by leading 117 of the 160 laps. The win is the fourth of the season for Jarrett
and the 22nd of his career. Jarrett was able to beat Bobby Labonte to the stripe by 3.3 seconds.
Jarrett continues to distance himself from the field in the points
race, now leading second place Mark Martin by 274 points.
Gordon on Brickyard Pole
Well, it wasn't the 180 mph lap that had been expected, but it was a track record nonetheless.
Jeff Gordon rocketed to his third pole position in six tries at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway,
he also has won twice at the Brickyard. Gordon's lap of 50.108 seconds, at 179.612 mph, was
almost a mile-an-hour faster than second place Mark Martin's qualifyng lap. David Green
surprised everybody with a third place effort, while point leader Dale Jarrrett will start fourth.
