    Gordon on Brickyard Pole
Well, it wasn't the 180 mph lap that had been expected, but it was a track record nonetheless. Jeff Gordon rocketed to his third pole position in six tries at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, he also has won twice at the Brickyard. Gordon's lap of 50.108 seconds, at 179.612 mph, was almost a mile-an-hour faster than second place Mark Martin's qualifyng lap. David Green surprised everybody with a third place effort, while point leader Dale Jarrrett will start fourth.
