Frontier @ the Glen
Gordon is King of the Road, Wins Fifth Straight
Jeff Gordon won his fifth straight road course race and his third in a row
at Watkins Glen, taking the checkered flag for the Frontier @ the Glen. Gordon grabbed the
lead on lap two and lead for 52 of the event's 90 laps, picking up five bonus points for
leading the most laps. Gordon would beat road course specialist Ron Fellows to the finish line
by .763 seconds to claim his 47th career win. Gordon moved into fifth place in the Winston Cup
point standings, passing rookie Tony Stewart. Dale Jarrett, with a fourth place effort,
now leads in the race for the championship by 300 points over Mark Martin.
Wallace on the Pole @ the Glen
Rusty Wallace grabbed his second pole position of the 1999 season in record fashion. Wallace's
lap 1:12.752, at 121.234 mph broke the track record previously held by Dale Earnhardt. Wallace
will start from the top spot for the 24th time in his career. Joining Wallace on the front row
is road-racing specialist Boris Said. Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin will make out row two.
