UAW-GM Quality 500
Gordon Wins Back-to-Back
Jeff Gordon used a late-race pass of Bobby Labonte to win the UAW-GM Quality 500. Gordon passed Labotne, who had dominated much of the event, inside of ten laps to go and held off Labonte by .85 seconds. The win is the fourth for Gordon at Lowe's Motor Speedway and the 49th of his career.
Labonte on Charlotte Pole
It seems like we have heard this before, Bobby Labonte takes the pole position at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The pole for the UAW-GM Quality 500 allows Labonte the lead the field to the green flag for all three events at the Charlotte track this year. Labonte's lap of 29.082 seconds, at 185.682 mph, gave him his fifth top starting spot of the 1999 season. Rusty Wallace will start from the outside pole, while John Andretti and Mark Martin will start third and fourth respectively.
