Winston Cup Drivers put Goodyear to the Test

FORT WORTH-DALLAS (Nov. 30, 1999) - NASCAR Winston Cup drivers Ward Burton, Jeremy Mayfield and Mike Skinner are at Texas Motor Speedway for two days of Goodyear tire testing, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.

Mayfield, driver of the #12 Mobil 1 Ford Taurus, and Skinner, driver of the #31 Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse Chevrolet Monte Carlo, were both testing in the 2000 versions of each car.

"I love this track," said Skinner. "But I've left in an ambulance the last two races here, so it owes me one. That'll just make it a better story when I win here in April."

Burton, driver of the #22 Caterpillar/Siemens Pontiac, had engine trouble early in the day, but dropped in a back-up race engine and resumed testing.

"We have almost no engine problems all year long, and then it happens during the tire test," said Burton.

Burton and Mayfield will be back at the speedway on Wednesday to continue testing for Goodyear. The test is closed to the public.

The three drivers will join other Winston Cup regulars for the April 2, 2000 DIRECTV 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. Tickets are still available at the ticket office, by calling (817) 215-8500, at Ticketmaster locations or on-line at www.texasmotorspeedway.com.
