Operates the Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation, an organization that purchases land in an effort to conserve and protect
wildlife habitats.
The foundation works closely with other wildlife organizations.

Attended Elon College for two years, then spent two years living in a cabin in the Virginia
woods surviving off the land.
Attended Hargrave Military Academy beginning in 10th grade, became a first lieutenant
and ranked first on the schools rifle team.
