HOUSTON, TX (February 17, 2009) – The No. 29 Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet driven by Kevin Harvick will feature a special decal on the deck lid this weekend for the running of the Auto Club 500 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California.

Mater Dei High School of Evansville, IN will be featured on the deck lid of the Richard Childress Racing machine to honor students from the school that won the 2008 Shell Eco-marathon Americas®. Students from the winning team attended Indianapolis Motor Speedway in July and were able to show off their 2,843 miles per gallon (mpg) vehicle to NASCAR media members as well as Shell executives.

This is all in an effort to recognize the 2008 Shell Eco-marathon Americas winners as well promote the upcoming 2009 Shell Eco-marathon Americas set to take place in Fontana, California on April 15 – 18 at Auto Club Speedway.

The Shell Eco-marathon is a global program that supports education, encourages innovation, reinforces conservation and fosters the development of leading technology for greater energy efficiency. The goal is not to break speed records or be the first to finish; it is to challenge students around the world to design, build and test vehicles that travel further using less energy.

The Shell Eco-marathon is a global forum for current and future leaders who are passionate about finding sustainable solutions to the world’s energy challenge. Shell has long recognized the conflict between the need for mobility and the toll it is taking on our planet. While demand for energy is growing, there is an increasing need to keep CO2 emissions at an acceptable level.

The Shell Eco-marathon invites student teams to design and build the most energy-efficient vehicle powered by either conventional or alternative fuels. The students from Mater Dei High School achieved 2,843 mpg and claimed a $10,000 prize for their victory.
