Aaron’s 499 - Travis Kvapil Notes

TRAVIS KVAPIL, YATES RACING
No. 28 Northern Tool + Equipment Ford Fusion
TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY
April 27, 2008

Quoting Driver, Travis Kvapil:
How does racing at Talladega force teams to refocus their efforts for this weekend?
“Even though Daytona and Talladega are the only true superspeedways we visit, Talladega is its own unique track. It is a super smooth racetrack that allows drivers the chance to run any line easily. Due to that fact, handling isn’t really a concern for teams when we race there. The main focus for us is to have a fast race car with a good engine that is able to survive the rigors of 500 miles at Talladega. This is an impound race for us as well which means that we’re able to focus all of our time during practice to race set-ups on the cars. It’s a real benefit when you can come to a track and not have to focus so much of your efforts on the car’s handling issues. This way we’re able to unload when we arrive for the weekend and spend every minute making sure that we’re getting all the speed possible from our car before that green flag waves on Sunday.”

Quoting Crew Chief, Todd Parrott:
How confident are you heading into Talladega this weekend based on this car’s past performance?
“We’re taking the same car we ran in the Daytona 500 this year and we qualified really well with this car. This is also the same chassis we raced at Talladega a year ago so I’m feeling pretty confident about our chances heading into this weekend. We’ve worked on this car a lot over the past few months. This car had some body damage to it after the Daytona 500, so we’ve taken the car back to the wind tunnel and it has actually performed better in the tunnel than it had earlier when we first ran it. I just feel really good about our chances, and we’ll just stay out of trouble and bring home a solid finish.”
