Samsung 500 - Travis Kvapil Notes

TRAVIS KVAPIL, YATES RACING
No. 28 Yates Racing Ford Fusion
TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY
April 6, 2008

Quoting Yates Racing Driver, Travis Kvapil:
Why do you enjoy racing at Texas Motor Speedway?
“Texas Motor Speedway is one of my favorite speedways to race at. I actually got my first Truck Series win there in 2001 so Texas is always a special place for me. We’re taking the same car we had out in Vegas where we finished eighth, so I’m feeling very positive. We feel that this car gives us a lot of speed and we’re feeling pretty confident in our 1.5-mile track program right now. It’s just exciting to go back to Texas and I really like the race track because the fans there are always so welcoming. Texas does present a few challenges and one of those is the fact that the groove off Turn 2 is pretty narrow so you have to make sure your car handles well in the turns. Racing at Texas just gets better every time we go there and I’m really looking forward to this weekend.”

Quoting Yates Racing Crew Chief, Todd Parrott:
With the team headed to Texas this weekend, how confident are you returning to a 1.5-mile track?
“Heading to Texas this weekend means that we’re returning to the 1.5-mile tracks, so we have to adapt our planning back to the longer tracks. We’re actually taking the same car we ran earlier this season at Las Vegas where we got our first Top-10 finish of the season. I feel really good about our chances this weekend. The car tested well at Vegas, ran well at Vegas, and hopefully we’ll be able to continue the strong performance with the car this weekend. Travis (Kvapil) really enjoys racing at Texas so hopefully all of these aspects will allow us to have a great weekend. The keys to success at Texas are having a car that’s snug getting into the corners as well as one that also turns well from the center out.”
