DAVID GILLILAND, YATES RACING
No. 38 Yates Racing Ford Fusion
RICHMOND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
MAY 3, 2008
Quoting Yates Racing Driver, David Gilliland:
Why do you enjoy racing at Richmond International Raceway?
“I like racing at Richmond because I’ve always been a fan of short track racing ever since I was young. Those are the kinds of tracks I got my start on and it’s a reminder of the beginning days of my racing career whenever we go to short tracks. Richmond is unlike any other track we visit and I like that challenge about it. We have room to pass there, but qualifying will be very important on Friday for us in regards to track position during the race. We are taking a new car for this weekend’s race but I think that we were able to combine notes from a few different tracks that had similar elements to Richmond. I’m feeling very confident going into this weekend. I think our team has been very consistent lately with our finishes, and once again, our goal for Saturday night at Richmond is another strong finish.”
Quoting Yates Racing Crew Chief, Cully Barraclough:
From a crew chief standpoint, what are some of the keys to racing at Richmond?
“This is a band new chassis for us this weekend and we haven’t tested it leading up to this race. The car is similar to the car we ran at Phoenix earlier this year. This weekend is a lockdown race for us meaning that we only get one practice before it’s time to qualify and race. Richmond doesn’t really have another track that you can truly compare notes with. We have done everything we can to set-up our Richmond car as close to the set-ups we had at Phoenix though since the tire compound will be the same. Richmond is a 0.75-mile track that really is an animal all its own due to the way the cars enter the corners. It is really different than any other track we visit on the circuit.”
