Crown Royal Presents the Dan Lowry 400 - Travis Kvapil Notes

TRAVIS KVAPIL, YATES RACING
No. 28 Discount Tire Ford Fusion
RICHMOND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
May 3, 2008

Quoting Discount Tire Driver, Travis Kvapil:
What do you enjoy about racing at Richmond International Raceway?
“It’s been over a year since I’ve gone racing at Richmond but I’ve had a couple of good races there in the past. 2005 was a great race for us when I qualified third and finished 11th. I’m really looking forward to this weekend. Richmond is a great track because it’s a short track but it’s still fast enough to where you need to make sure you have a really good aero package and of course a great motor. More than anything it’s just a fun Saturday night race where the fans seem like they’re right on top of the action. Richmond is a good track to race at side-by-side because it’s definitely a two-groove race track which allows us to move around a little bit. As competitors we always enjoy going to tracks where you aren’t always locked into one groove, and since Richmond offers us a couple different lines to race on, it’s a fun track to race at.”

Quoting Discount Tire Crew Chief, Todd Parrott:
What are the keys to having a successful race car at Richmond?
“Richmond races in the past usually meant a lot of green flag runs. It’s really important to have your car pretty well-balanced in order to be able to make those long runs. Last year we found ourselves being a bit loose off during the race and it’s really important that you are able to turn in the middle of the corners, but you also need a car that has good drive off the corner as well. This is the same tire compound that we raced earlier in the season at Phoenix so we have a bit of an idea how the tires may react this weekend. Qualifying will be very important since track position is so valuable at short tracks. We don’t have a specific track to fully compare notes with when we head to Richmond, so you go there piecing together what you can based on aspects that may be similar from track to track.
