Subway Fresh Fit 500 - Elliott Sadler Notes

Elliott Sadler Hopes to Turn Up the Heat in Phoenix
No. 19 Dodge to carry Stanley Tools flame scheme at ultra-fast mile oval

This weekend, the No. 19 Stanley Dodge Charger of Elliott Sadler hopes to light up the night with a great finish under the lights of Phoenix International Raceway. Just like his successful Late Model days, the Emporia, Va. native always enjoys Saturday night action.

After a difficult day at the 1.5-mile oval of Texas Motor Speedway, a flat, one-mile oval like PIR is the perfect place to get the points battle back on track. With the orange, yellow and red-flame Stanley Tools paint scheme back on the car, the incentive to turn up the heat is more present.

George Gillett Jr., co-owner of Gillett Evernham Motorsports, said he is impressed with the sport of NASCAR since taking the ownership role last season. Gillett owns the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL and Liverpool in the English Premier League

Elliott Sadler Quotes
On racing at Phoenix: “This will be the 13th time I’ve raced Phoenix in my Sprint Cup Series career and I’m hoping luck rides along with me. The track is flat and wide enough where you can get into the corners and do some serious passing. You can still do that on the front and back stretches, but I like how wide the track is all around. You can search around for different lines and the best part is we’re going back there for the third time in this new Sprint Cup car.”

Past races at Phoenix: “As you can see by my record, this track hasn’t been one of my better ones in the past. But, I am really liking how Rodney Childers (Team Director) and the guys have been working this year getting our cars ready. Once we get to the track, they are working even harder to make sure we get everything we can out of our No. 19 Dodge. Those are big factors in building everyone’s confidence as the season continues and its showing more each week.”

On being 20th in points: “We just have to keep on being consistent and working towards better finishes. The talent and knowledge is there on this team, we just have to make it all work for us on the track. A race under the lights on a Saturday brings out a little something special, and sometimes different, aspect in all of us. I’m looking forward to it, and we have a new car that we built we’re all excited about getting on the track.”

George Gillett, Jr. Quotes
“NASCAR is an unbelievable sport. The fan support is something I couldn’t believe until I immersed myself in it. There are 75 million fans and 40 million of them are avid fans. The support that we get at the team and at the driver level is absolutely amazing.

“To see Kasey [Kahne] and Elliott [Sadler] come back and to see Patrick [Carpentier] qualify the car as well as he been doing is so exciting. Each one of the sports (NASCAR, NHL Montreal Canadiens, United Football Club Liverpool) we’re involved in captures my soul for different reasons; its fun to see. It’s fun to be associated with people who are trying to get better.”

Behind the Hauler Open Interview Session: Elliott Sadler will be available to all interested media behind the No. 19 Stanley Tools Dodge hauler on Thursday, April 10 at 11 a.m.

Best Buy Racing Club Contest on Sirius: In addition to offering up his varied views on tantalizing topics each Tuesday at 4:40 p.m. on Sirius Speedway, fans can now get it on the fun. Each week, Elliott will answer one selected email question on the air. That lucky person will then receive an autographed Reward Zone program Racing Club $50 Gift Card; autographed by Sadler. Fans can submit their questions to speedway@sirius-radio.com for selection.

Helmets and Wrestling their way for Autism Awareness: Sadler will continue his philanthropic ways this year through the www.sadlerfoundation.org via various online auctions. The latest initiatives are the Autism Society-logo helmet he’s wearing at every track this month, and a chance to manage a wrestler or be the ring announcer at an upcoming TNA Wrestling event. Elliott and his brother Hermie are utilizing both initiatives to partake in Autism Awareness Month of April.
