UAW-Dodge 400 - Ford Saturday Quotes

Matt Kenseth, driver of the No. 17 USG/DeWalt Ford Fusion, qualified 13th for Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Kenseth, who has two wins and five top-10 finishes in eight LVMS Cup starts, spoke about what kind of race he expects after Saturday’s first practice session.

MATT KENSETH – No. 17 USG/DeWalt Ford Fusion – YOU WERE FASTEST IN PRACTICE THIS MORNING. DOES THAT TELL US ANYTHING ABOUT TOMORROW? “One lap isn’t really what we aim at because we try to look at long runs and making it drive good for the race. Our speeds were OK. I’m encouraged by it, but I’m not really worried about one lap or where we are on the sheet, but, overall, I thought we were pretty close.”

ROUSH FENWAY HAS HAD SO MUCH SUCCESS HERE AND EVEN THOUGH THAT DOESN’T GUARANTEE GOOD THINGS TOMORROW, IS IT NICE TO KNOW THE TEAM HAS RUN WELL IN THE PAST? “It’s the same location, but it’s not the same race track. A Roush Fenway car hasn’t won since they changed the track, so I don’t feel any extra special about it because of that. I certainly like coming out here, but it’s a totally different track than what we had success at.”

ANY QUESTION MARKS STILL LINGERING WITH THIS CAR TOMORROW? “It was nice that we had a lot more practice here this week. California was really kind of a guessing game. We didn’t have much practice there on race weekend, whereas here we got a bunch. The weather conditions are supposed to be a lot different tomorrow. It’s supposed to be real cold and real windy, so that adds a little more of the unknown to it.”

WHAT KIND OF RACE CAN YOU FORESEE TOMORROW AS FAR AS THE GROOVE AT THIS TRACK? “It seemed like people were in different lines. I saw Jeff Burton out there running his whole run on the high line and obviously everybody thinks the bottom is preferred, so I think it’ll be a two-groove track. I think it’ll be about the same as what we saw last year or maybe even a little bit better.”
