Instead of making the trans-continental trip back to Maryland, Cooley decided to make a vacation out of the west coast swing and head up the coast to visit the city by the bay, San Francisco, before making their way to Las Vegas for the UAW-Dodge 400. Prior to the start of the race, Cooley and her guests will enjoy passes to the Neon Garage, which provides unprecedented access to the drivers and teams, live entertainment and a bird’s eye view of the Winner Circle.
- Catch the Action … The UAW-Dodge 400 can be seen live on FOX Sunday, March 2 beginning at 3:30 p.m. EST and can be heard live on PRN and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the third of 36 points-paying races is set for Friday, February 29 at 6:30 p.m. EST and will be broadcast live on SPEED, PRN and Sirius Satellite Radio.
JEFF BURTON QUOTES:
You tested at Las Vegas Motor Speedway earlier this year. How did the test go for the AT&T Racing team?
“I think we learned a lot and we definitely have a good starting point. I think a lot is going to change between now and then. The track is going to be slicker and will have more rubber on it. The track is definitely going to change but I think we’re going to be in pretty good shape.”
Last year you finished 15th but ran in the top-five for most of the 400-mile event. What happened during that race?
“In my heart, I believe we had the Cup Series race won. We had an engine failure late in the race. I look back on that weekend and think that we had a chance to do something really special. I won the Nationwide Series race the day before and I thought we truly had a chance to win both races and hope that I can do that this year.”
How important is it to run well on mile-and-a-half tracks?
“Because there are so many mile-and-a-half race tracks on the schedule, it’s really important to be successful on those types of tracks. Some people say the real season starts at California. I don’t believe that. I think the real season starts Saturday in practice (at Daytona) but the way the points are paid and with so many mile-and-a-half and two-mile tracks on the schedule, it’s important to have a solid intermediate program. If not, then you don’t have a chance of competing for the championship. So, it’s a part of the program that we have worked exceptionally hard on and I hope we have done it well enough. The effort has been good so we’ll just have to see how we stack up.”
