Cup Qualifying Rained Out, Lineup Set by NASCAR Rulebook
Who said that it never rains in Southern California? Rain has caused the cancellation of Sprint Cup qualifying, as well as Friday's practice session, at the newly renamed Auto Club Speedway forcing the starting lineup to be set in accordance to the NASCAR rulebook. As the defending series champion, Jimmie Johnson will start from the pole position, with Hendrick teammate Jeff Gordon starting from the second spot. Clint Bowyer and Matt Kenseth will start from the second row, while Casey Mears will start fifth, thanks to Kyle Busch’s fifth-pace finish in the 2007 points while driving the No. 5 car.
