WIX FILTERS LAP LEADER NOTES FOR THE FOOD CITY 500 NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES RACE AT BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY, MARCH 16, 2008.
Tony Stewart led six times for 267 laps to earn WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors today’s Food City 500. Stewart has led at least one lap in three of the five Sprint Cup races this season for a total of 289 laps and claimed WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors for the first time this season.
Stewart posted a 12th-place finish in today’s race. UNOFFICIALLY he is seventh in the Sprint Cup Series championship standings, 126 points behind leader Kyle Busch. Stewart trails sixth-place Kasey Kahne by 18 and leads eighth-place Ryan Newman by 21.

I was proud of Kyle. He came back and with no power steering at this place I figured he was going to be a long shot but his lap times were about as quick as anybody at the end. You’ve got to finish these things. I kind of equate this place a lot to Daytona and Talladega. You’ve got to finish it first. It’s nice to have really good cars but it’s so frustrating to go through and not be able to capitalize. We’ve been here before and to not do it really hurts.” STEWART HAS LED SO MANY LAPS IN THE SPRING RACE HERE. “Obviously they’re fast cars, so that’s the first thing you’ve got to do. Now you have to figure out how to finish the things. Some of that is in your control and some of it is not. The stuff that’s in your control you can’t mess up. I think we messed up a few things there but I think overall you couldn’t ask more out of the drivers and crews that come here and work all weekend long. I think they did a great job.”
