“My crew did a fantastic job. I think maybe I was a bit conservative getting in, making sure to avoid that 20-second penalty (speeding on pit road). It was excellent in several areas. I want to congratulate my crew on that excellent stop. They were solid last night in the pit crew competition. This translates into, hey, maybe we need to get our cars a little better and we can start competing for some top fives again like our fans want to see in our Miller Lite Dodge. We found something in this last practice during the daytime and it should translate into speed at night as well. We didn’t test it, but I think we are going to try it. That will only better our chances for the Coca-Cola 600.”

RYAN NEWMAN (No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger) Qualified 8th

“Everything was good. I don’t know what the pit stop (time) was. On my part, no part was great. I thought we had good laps and feel the Alltel Dodge guys did a good job. I didn’t feel like I was sitting there forever. I think it will be a decent starting spot. You never know what is going to happen with this race. You want to have track position at the start. They build a lot of excitement into the first couple of laps of it, so you just never know. We’ll just go out there and do our best.”

BOBBY LABONTE (No. 43 Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge Charger) Qualified 10th

“Our guys did a good job tonight. It was a good solid run for us. We’ll see where it ends up, but I’m really proud of everybody tonight. In a race, you make 8-10 pit stops and there are other cars on pit road. In the course of a race, you can make a slight mistake on pit road and have time to recover. Everything has to be right in this qualifying to be on top of the board.”

JUAN PABLO MONTOYA (No. 42 Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit Dodge Charger) Qualified 15th

“We did our qualifying run early in practice and the car was loose. We tightened it up and thought with it cooling down, it would be enough. It wasn’t. I think we’ve got a really fast race car. It’s going to make it more interesting.”
