All-Star Race Notes

Race: NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race
Track: Lowe’s Motor Speedway (1.5-mile Quad-Oval)
Location: Concord, NC

CHASSIS INFO
No. 42 Juicy Fruit Dodge (NSCS): Chassis #805. Montoya and the team tested this chassis last week at Lowe’s Motor Speedway as part of the two-day NASCAR sanctioned test. He also ran this chassis earlier this season at Atlanta where started 19th and finished 16th.

10 Notes on Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates
1. CGRFS All-Star History: Juan Pablo Montoya will make his first visit in the NASCAR Sprint All-Star event this Saturday night. Montoya’s trip to Victory Lane at Infineon Raceway (Sonoma, Calif.) earned him the right to race in the event. Teammate Reed Sorenson will participate in the Showdown to race his way into the All-Star Race. Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates has earned this coveted transfer spot before with Veteran driver Sterling Marlin. Marlin won the Showdown (previously NEXTEL Open) in the No. 40 Dodge in 2004.

2. Homestead-Miami Shows Support for Juan: On May 17, NASCAR will be running one of three viewing parties in support of the 2008 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race in Montoya’s hometown of Miami, Fla. The goal of the party is to bring together the community of NASCAR fans and Montoya fans to a central location to celebrate one of NASCAR’s premier events. The SPEED Channel broadcast will be aired live at the event and Speed will do live cut-ins at each viewing party location during the race broadcast. The event will take place at Homestead-Miami Speedway from 3 p.m. to midnight will an expected turnout of 500 fans. Fans will also have the opportunity to win Montoya merchandise while they cheer on their hometown driver. The other two viewing parties will be held in Los Angeles and New York.

4. Dario Update: Dario Franchitti and the No. 40 CGRFS Dodge team will sit out this weekend’s NSCS All-Star events at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Franchitti, who continues to recover from an ankle injury he received in the NNS event at Talladega Superspeedway last month (April 26) has yet to receive clearance from his doctor to return to racing competition. Franchitti was fitted for a carbon fiber brace earlier this month but will take another weekend off to give his ankle more time to heal. His status behind the wheel of the No. 40 Dodge will continue to be evaluated on a week-to-week basis.

5. Fan Day: CGRFS wants to thank its fans for their support Friday, May 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., during the Third Annual CGRFS Fan Appreciation Day. This year’s event will be highlighted by a variety of activities at the team’s Concord, N.C., race shop, including an extended view of the race facility that will take fans through interactive stations and displays, as well as pit stop and car wrapping demonstrations. A complimentary lunch will also be provided (while supplies last). The entire CGRFS NASCAR drive line-up, including Dario Franchitti, Reed Sorenson, Juan Pablo Montoya, Bryan Clauson and Kevin Hamlin, will be at the shop from Noon to 2 p.m. ET to meet their fans and sign autographs. Please Note: Wristbands will be required to receive an autograph.

6. School rallies behind Reed: The 6th graders at Stork Elementary School (Alta Loma, California) have rallied behind Reed Sorenson for the NASCAR All-Star Fan Vote. The Sixth grade students from Miss Graf’s class have started a campaign to “Vote Reed in his need for speed.”

Sorenson on the Vote: “It is really unique deal that these students have been voting for the Target team to be in the All-Star race. It hasn’t been that long ago since I was their age. I know how it feels to want to have my opinion count. My sponsor Target and I value education and racing, so to see the two mixed together is ideal!”

Tracey Graf (Teacher): “NASCAR is a great way to make the connection between real life and the textbook. What better way is there to teach kids about real live scenarios than bringing it into the classroom? Whether its pit strategies or the stories behind the drivers, these kids are excited about learning.”

7. Pit Crew Challenge: The No. 42 crew will be participating in the NASCAR Sprint Pit Crew Challenge on Thursday evening at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, N.C. This will be the third appearance for the No. 42 crew in the four-year old event. The seven-man team was automatically entered into the competition after Montoya drove his No. 42 Dodge to victory lane at Infineon Raceway last June. The results from the Pit Crew Challenge will determine the pit road stall selection that will service Montoya’s Juicy Fruit Dodge in the All-Star race on Saturday evening.

8. Wii Fitness: Chip Ganassi Racing Teams has partnered with Nintendo and its long-time sponsor Target, to have Nintendo’s newest video game, Wii Fit™, as the sponsor of 1,100 miles of auto racing on Sunday, May 25. Nintendo and Wii Fit become the primary sponsors on Alex Lloyd’s No. 16 Dallara Honda in the Indianapolis 500 and later in the day along with Target on the team’s No. 40 Dodge in the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte, N.C.

9. NASCAR Day Telethon: Montoya and his wife Connie will be participating in the 2008 NASCAR Day Telethon on Friday, May 16 at the Sam Bass Gallery in Concord, N.C. The pair will answer calls from donors from 11 to 11:30 a.m. ET. By calling 1-888-May16TH (1-888-629-1684) or texting an email address to 81714 on NASCAR Day, fans will be helping the more than 30 driver, team and track charities that the NASCAR Foundation supports year round. Montoya fans also have the ability to designate their entire donation to Formula Smiles, the charity founded by the Montoyas, under The NASCAR Foundation Family of Charity umbrella. The driver, team or track charity that receives the most donations during the NASCAR Day Telethon will receive an additional $24,000 donation, in honor of the 24th running of the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race, courtesy of Sprint.

10. Karting with Clauson: Although he won’t be racing this Friday and Saturday as the NASCAR Nationwide Series takes the weekend off, Bryan Clauson still plans to get some track time next Tuesday, May 20 and Wednesday, May 21. First, he will take part in the Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports (WAM) charitable karting event at the Concord Mills Mall NASCAR SpeedPark in Concord, N.C. During the event, race fans will get the opportunity to compete against some of their favorite NASCAR drivers and personalities. The event will feature a silent auction, autograph sessions and karting competitions. All proceeds from the event will go to WAM and the Victory Junction Gang Camp. For more information about WAM initiatives, go to www.waminc.org. After Clauson finishes his karting competition with the fans on Tuesday, he plans to take on his own Fastenal Team Wednesday, May 21, during another go-kart escapade. That one will not be open to the public, but stay tuned for who comes out on top as the No. 40 crew members battle it out.
