NASCAR All-Star Race - Greg Biffle Notes

Greg Biffle
Lowe's Motor Speedway
1.5-mile speedway located in Concord, N.C.
NSCS: Saturday, May 17, 2008

FAST FACTS:

  • Biffle’s win last season at Kansas qualified him for this weekend’s Sprint All-Star Challenge.
  • Biffle’s statement that drivers are more aggressive in the All-Star Challenge is confirmed by a quick look at his stats. Biffle has completed only one of four All-Star races due to on-track incidents.
  • In 2004, a nudge from teammate Kurt Busch sent Biffle into the wall and out of the race.
  • In 2005, aggressive racing with Elliott Sadler led to right-front fender damage that eventually caused a cut tire and severe damage to the right side of the No. 16 Ford.
  • In 2006, Biffle simply got caught up in a multi-car collision that ended his night on lap 50.
  • Biffle finished 43rd last weekend in Darlington after leading 95 laps and currently sits 11th in the point standings.
  • This weekend Biffle will run the red and black Dish Network paint scheme.

Greg Biffle on racing in the Sprint All-Star Challenge:
“I guess you could say that winning the Sprint All-Star Challenge is pretty much about the bragging rights and the million dollars on the line. With no points at stake, you’ll see guys race a lot more aggressively than they normally would, maybe lift a little later than they normally would going into the corners. I know we’re going out there on Saturday night to win but that’s also what 23 other teams will be doing. As far as the race itself though, it’s got to be one of the most exciting for the fans. The pre-race is usually pretty spectacular and then racing under the lights is always a little more exciting in my opinion. Those things, added to the fact that most of the drivers are going to be a little extra aggressive, usually make for a pretty exciting race.”

Crew Chief Greg Erwin on racing in the Sprint All-Star Challenge:
“We’re taking the car we raced at Bristol and finished fourth with earlier this season. We did not take it to the Charlotte test but we will be able to use a few of the things we learned at the test for the All-Star car. The strategy for the Coca-Cola 600 versus the All-Star is so different that not a lot of what happens this Saturday night will help us next Sunday but every bit of track time you get is good. We actually used some of the stuff we learned at the Charlotte test last weekend in Darlington because they give us the same right-side tire at Darlington and Charlotte. I almost wish we could have brought our Darlington car to Charlotte but the turnaround time with these new cars is just too long. The Bristol car is a fast car though. We’re going to go there with the intention to win and see what we come up with at the end of the night.”
