Sprint All-Star Race - Lowe's Motor Speedway

Kasey Kahne Proves All-Star Mettle After Fan Vote
Kasey Kahne gave his fans a million-dollar payback victory Saturday night. He won the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race after being voted in through a fan vote. Kahne failed to finish in one of the two transfer spots in a last-chance race for drivers who otherwise didn't qualify for the special event. He received an overwhelming majority vote of fans to get a starting slot at the rear of the field. Kahne made the best of his chance, racing his way through the field in four 25-lap segments and taking the lead on the 84th lap when Denny Hamlin's' No. 11 FedExToyota lost power just like teammate Kyle Busch's car earlier in the race.

Allmendinger Wins Shootout, Transfers to All-Star Race
No, it wasn’t the Daytona 500 but it sure felt like it to AJ Allmendinger, who found victory lane for the first time in his NASCAR career. Allmendinger held off Sam Hornish Jr. by .154 seconds to take the win in the 40-lap Sprint Showdown, Saturday’s preliminary event to the Sprint All-Star Race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Both Allmendinger and Hornish will transfer into the main event, as well as Kasey Kahne who won the Sprint Fan Vote.

Kyle Busch, Pit Crew Grab Pole in 24th All-Star Race
NASCAR’s hottest driver, with an assist from his pit crew, remained on fire on Friday night at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Kyle Busch, coming off a pole run in the Truck Series earlier in the day, made it a pole position sweep after capturing the top starting position for the 24th running of the NASCAR Sprint All Star Race. Busch was, by far, the quickest at making three laps around the 1.5-mile track and his crew changed four tires in 13.4 seconds. It all combined to equal the pole position for the sport's All Star event. Busch’s former teammate Jeff Gordon will join him on the front row of the starting grid, followed by Kyle's brother Kurt in the third spot. Martin Truex Jr. and Greg Biffle round out the top-five starting positions.

Sadler to Start Showdown from Pole Position
Elliott Sadler put his No. 19 Stanley Dodge on the pole position for Saturday evening’s Sprint Showdown at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Sadler qualified in 29.187 seconds, at an average speed of 185.014 mph, to earn the top starting spot for the 40 lap shootout. The top two finishers in the Sprint Showdown, along with the winner of the fan vote, will transfer to the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race. Brian Vickers, celebrating his crew’s win in Thursday night’s Pit Crew Challenge, put his car on the out-side pole for the event with a lap of 29.223 seconds, at an average speed of 184.786 mph. David Ragan will roll off third, while Vickers’ teammate AJ Allmendinger will start fourth.
