Near-Record Lead Changes at Darlington

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 10, 2008) – Venerable Darlington Raceway may wear a new asphalt coat, but its competitive reputation remains.

Fifteen different NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers led Saturday night’s Dodge Challenger 500, won by Kyle Busch. That’s one shy of the track record of 16 different leaders set Sept. 6, 1982.

Saturday’s 35 lead changes tie for second place in that category at Darlington; 41 is the record.

Lastly, the Dodge Challenger 500’s average speed of 140.350 mph is a new track record.
