Centurion Boats at the Glen - Bill Elliott Notes

21 TEAM HEADS TO THE GLEN IN A SERIOUS DOGFIGHT FOR POINTS
Centurion Boats at the Glen/Watkins Glen International Raceway Notes

The gap between 36th and 35th place in the 2007 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup points has narrowed in light of Bill Elliott’s 18th place effort at Pocono Raceway this past weekend. What was a 37-point deficit has now closed to a scant 26 markers. Elliott finished two spots ahead of Dave Blaney and the 22 team, of whom they’re chasing and also led a lap at the 2.5-mile speedway on Sunday.

Now the team finds itself preparing for the final road course race of the year, the Centurion Boats at the Glen event, set for Sunday afternoon. The team intends to bring Chassis C-7, which they used with success at Sonoma back in June. There, Bill Elliott qualified the car in the seventh spot when there was no past champions provisional safety net. The team managed a 19th place finish after stretching their fuel run some four laps past what should have been enough to finish. The car did run out of fuel coming off the final turn 11 on the course.

Elliott’s record at Watkins Glen International Raceway includes 18 starts, three top-fives and five top-ten finishes. He’s led 27 laps and qualified inside the top-10 in 11 of 18 tries. Numbers like these should hopefully keep the No. 21 Little Debbie Ford in safe territory come Friday’s qualifying session.

WHAT THE TEAM HAS TO SAY
Bill Elliott, driver of the No. 21 Little Debbie Ford:
“Last week was a really good effort by the whole group. The car was fast and I don’t think we really changed a thing all day except for maybe a pound of air here or there in the tires. I liked the way it drove and that’s a credit to the crew for working so hard to get a good setup underneath the car. We have our work cut out for us this weekend, but we’ve built a little momentum here lately that we’re going to carry with us.”

Michael McSwain, Crew Chief of the No. 21 Little Debbie Ford:
“All the guys pitched in last weekend, the road crew and the race day guys both had great days when we really needed it. We’re closer this week—and we have some momentum on our side. Elliott’s a great qualifier for us and he’ll have to step up for us like he always does. It’s a matter of covering all of your bases. We’ll watch everything Friday and see how it shakes out.”
