“This is another test for our Dodge Avenger. The data we collect at Watkins Glen this weekend and the races we use the Avenger the rest of the season is being incorporated into the Avengers we are building at Gillett Evernham Motorsports for 2008. Having to move from the Charger to the Avenger makes it a bit more difficult when you’re off on performance, but we’re making progress. We made the switch back to the 2006 Dodge Charger nose and aero package at Indy. In practice sessions, we had positive results. What we learned in practice didn’t show up in the race, but will be helpful in the remaining races the Charger is used.
“Some teams have made Watkins Glen a fuel strategy race, opting to make two stops at planned times during the 90-lap event. It can be done. We will be looking to get our No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Avenger hooked up with the track and through the corners during practice. We had a really good Avenger in Sonoma, and expect to be fast again at Watkins Glen.”
