PREVIEW: KYLE BUSCH (NO. 5 KELLOGG'S/CARQUEST IMPALA SS)
VENUE: TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY (2.66-MILE TRI-OVAL)
CIRCUIT: NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES (RACE 30 OF 36)
EVENT: SUNDAY, OCT. 7, 2007 (188 LAPS, 500 MILES)
CUT TO THE CHASE: After the No. 5 team's 41st-place result at Kansas Speedway last Sunday, Kyle Busch fell to sixth in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series championship points. The race marked the first in which he finished outside the top five since the start of the Chase for the NEXTEL Cup. Busch was 10th in the Chase standings entering the event Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway one year ago.
HONORARY CREW MEMBER FOR CARQUEST: Team sponsor CARQUEST has extended a special invitation to Edmon Enviya of Schaumburg, Ill., to assist the No. 5 team as an honorary crew member for this weekend's race in Talladega. Enviya is the manager of National Tire and Battery in Arlington Heights, Ill., and was CARQUEST's top customer for the month of August.
DOUBLE THE FUN: With the NASCAR Busch Series on hiatus this weekend, Busch will drive the No. 51 Chevrolet Silverado for Billy Ballew Motorsports in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event on Saturday. This will mark the first time that the 22-year-old Las Vegas native has seen NCTS action at a superspeedway.
IMPOUNDING TALLADEGA: This weekend at Talladega, the NEXTEL Cup teams will face their final impound race of the 2007 season. Busch's best qualifying effort at Talladega is sixth, recorded one year ago under impound conditions.
TALLADEGA BEST, WORST OF TIMES: Busch's best result at Talladega came one year ago when the No. 5 team started the 500-mile event from the sixth position, led 10 laps and finished a respectable 11th. Busch has also endured his share of misery at the superspeedway, having been involved in two "Big Ones" in five starts and notching four finishes of 32nd or worse.
UNLUCKY 13: Should the No. 5 Kellogg's/CARQUEST team be superstitious with regard to its qualifying position at Talladega? Busch has qualified 13th three times in five career starts at Talladega. In those three races, he has either been involved in a multi-car accident (twice) or suffered a mechanical failure.
HENDRICK RULES: Hendrick Motorsports drivers have collectively started 142 races at Talladega Superspeedway. Team owner Rick Hendrick has nine wins, five of which have occurred in the past four years. Together, Hendrick drivers have scored 38 top-five finishes, 52 top-10s and led a total of 1,786 laps around the 2.66-mile track.
BRAND NEW FOR TALLADEGA: Crew chief Alan Gustafson has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 456 as the primary Impala SS for this weekend's NEXTEL Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway. It will be the first time the car sees action, with the exception of September's NEXTEL Cup test at Talladega.

KYLE BUSCH, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S/CARQUEST IMPALA SS: (ON MOVING FORWARD IN THE CHASE.) "Last weekend (at Kansas Speedway) certainly wasn't the way we wanted to finish, especially with how good of a car we had. But that was last week and we're moving forward. We are only three races into this Chase, and, to be honest, it's way too early to tell. Almost everyone at this point has had some kind of issue, so that helps us. We have to be good every week, but we will need some luck, too. It seems like now everyone, both Chase and non-Chase drivers, has to be super careful who they're racing. You don't want to wreck someone racing for the championship, not with the tight points race we have going on."
BUSCH: (ON HOW THE CAR OF TOMORROW WILL CHANGE RACING AT TALLADEGA.) "Boy, its going to be a wild, wild race. It's certainly going to be well worth it for the fans. They will get their money's worth, for sure. With the bigger restrictor plates and the Impala SS, it's going to be crazy. It makes the race an even bigger wildcard race for the teams in the Chase. The Car of Tomorrow is definitely different than what we are used to running on a superspeedway. Our judgment and perception in the draft is going to change, and bump-drafting as we know it will change. As drivers, we will all have to use our heads and just try to be as perfect as possible. My biggest fear is the 'Big One.' I just don't want to be in the middle of it when it happens. I hope everyone races smart."
BUSCH: (ON RUNNING THE TRUCK RACE TO HELP PREPARE FOR CUP.) "I've actually said this all along, but the Car of Tomorrow is very similar to the Silverado that we run in the truck series. I've never raced on a superspeedway in a truck, so I'm looking forward to running that race and also hopefully learning some things I can apply to the Cup race."

ALAN GUSTAFSON, CREW CHIEF OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S/CARQUEST IMPALA SS: (ON IMPOUNDS AND BEING PREPARED.) "It will actually be a good thing to have the impound procedure this weekend. As you saw last week, we wrecked in a Chase race. We have been bringing extra people to the track and had a crash plan in place. Our team put the entire front end of the No. 5 car back together last weekend in 32 minutes. It was a ton of work, and I have to say how proud I am of that. The best thing is that we were fast when we went back out. Kyle was safe and actually competitive -- with a wrecked car. That says a lot about our team. We're ready if the bottom drops out."
