WIX FILTERS LAP LEADER NOTES FOR THE AARON’S 499 NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES RACE AT TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY, APRIL 29, 2007.
Jeff Gordon led 10 times for 71 laps to earn WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors in the Aaron’s 499. Gordon has led at least one lap in the last eight consecutive races.
Gordon claimed the WIX Filters Lap Leader Award for the third time this season and is tied with Tony Stewart (3-3) in the overall WIX Filters Lap Leader standings.
Gordon won today’s race at Talladega, his second consecutive NEXTEL Cup victory. He has finished no worse than fourth in the last five consecutive races. Gordon is the first driver to win from the pole at Talladega since Bobby Labonte accomplished the feat in the spring race of 1998.
Gordon’s victory is his 77th in 483 NEXTEL Cup Series races. He moved into sole possession of sixth-place on the all-time winner’s list, breaking a tie with Dale Earnhardt.
UNOFFICIALLY Gordon continues to lead the NEXTEL Cup Series championship standings, holding a 203-point advantage over second-place Jeff Burton. This is the fifth race where Gordon has led the standings.
