Samsung 500 - Ford Saturday Quotes

Carl Edwards, driver of the No. 99 Office Depot Ford Fusion, has an opportunity this weekend to become the first Cup driver to win more than once at Texas Motor Speedway. Edwards won at Texas late in the 2005 season. Edwards currently leads the Busch Series standings, and has won that series’ last two races.

CARL EDWARDS – No. 99 Office Depot Ford Fusion – WHERE WERE YOU YESTERDAY WHEN THE BAD WEATHER NEARED? “We closed up the motorhome and we came over here to the hauler, and we stood in here in the middle of it, and when it started getting real bad when went over to the garage.”

THERE WAS SOME PRACTICE YESTERDAY, BUT NOT MUCH, AND NO QUALIFYING. HOW WILL THAT AFFECT THE REST OF THE WEEKEND? “No qualifying is not a big deal. We got a lot of race practice in, so now we’re going to race-practice some more today. It won’t really upset our race-practice schedule. The only thing is the weather changed a lot; we’ll have to decide what it’s going to be like tomorrow to determine whether or not we’re going to take our notes from today or yesterday.”

THERE HAVE BEEN 12 RACES AT THIS RACE TRACK, AND 12 DIFFERENT WINNERS. WHY DO YOU SUPPOSE THAT NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO WIN A SECOND TIME YET? “I think that the biggest reason you see so many different winners here is this isn’t a track where the race-car driver can really make a huge different, you know what I mean? If you get the track right, it’s a track where the car and the setup and the crew chiefs, like my crew chief, Bob Osborne, really shine. If they can do the job and get things right, it makes the driver look really good. So, I think every time you come back, everybody has a little bit different setup and everybody has some new technology or whatever, so it seems like there’s always one guy that’s fast every different race.”

YOUR LAST VICTORY IN THE CUP SERIES WAS AT THIS TRACK. DO YOU THINK OF WINS DIFFERENTLY AS TIME GOES ON? “A win is a win. I don’t think it matters if it’s your first win or your last win, they’re all really fun, and I’m excited that hopefully we’ll win this race on Sunday.”
