Chevy Rock & Roll 400 - Team Red Bull Notes

TEAM RED BULL
RICHMOND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
CHEVY ROCK AND ROLL 400

ENTRIES: Red Bull No. 83 Brian Vickers and Red Bull No. 84 AJ Allmendinger
RACE: NASCAR NEXTEL Cup, “Chevy Rock & Roll 400”
TRACK: Richmond International Raceway, Richmond, VA
DATES: September 7-8, 2007

+ RIDING A SMALL WAVE INTO RIR
Mr. Mo-Mentum bought a ticket on behalf of Red Bull Racing for this weekend’s NASCAR races at Richmond International Raceway. The team’s two drivers manned up in the sweltering southern California heat Sunday night, and now there’s a bit of bravado beating from Red Bull Racing.

Sure, it was only one race, but Brian Vickers’ eighth-place finish and AJ Allmendinger’s 18th-place run in the Sharp Aquos 500 proved to the folks on pit road that Red Bull Racing — two cars, two drivers and the many men and women behind it — is creeping closer to, as they say, consistency.

Brian owns two top-10 finishes in two of the past three races and four overall. AJ has gone from the Bristol high banks to the flat track in Fontana, where he was running third with 25 laps to go before finishing a career-best 18th. Richmond’s short track is next. BV missed out on the rain-delayed race there in May, but AJ qualified a season-best 13th. And they’ll both run in Friday night’s Busch Series race — Brian in Braun Racing’s No. 10 Toyota and AJ in Chip Ganassi Racing’s No. 42 Dodge.

+ QUOTES
Brian Vickers, No. 83 driver – ”We unfortunately missed Richmond back in May, but we’ve made some gains on our Car of Tomorrow program since then, so we’re hoping our luck turns around this time. We had a pretty good car in practice last time, just couldn’t pull off the lap time we needed. We’re still chasing the top 35, and we’re closing the gap with a couple recent top 10s, but we have to keep making races or we’re just setting ourselves even further behind. Hopefully we’re in the race this weekend and get a chance to make up even more ground.”

Doug Richert, No. 83 crew chief –”It’s all about Friday. Last time we went to Richmond we just barely missed the race, so we have to make sure that doesn’t happen again. We want to show up with a decent car and get a decent qualifying draw. Being an impound race you have to start the race with the setup you qualified with, so it’s hard to say that you’re going to put all of your effort into qualifying, when having a good race car is just as important. For us, points are everything and we want a good race car, but we have to first get into the race to even have a shot at getting points. It’s a two-fold Friday.”

AJ Allmendinger, No. 84 driver – "I am really excited about returning to Richmond. It is my favorite track so far this year. We got our best qualifying spot of the year in the race back in May. We weren't as good in the race as we wanted to be, but we have improved the car overall since then. The California race last weekend showed what this team is capable of doing. We still need to approach qualifying on Friday like we always do though. Then once we are locked in the field, we can focus on the race. Night racing always seems more fun, plus the Race for the Chase will be finalized Saturday night - it's going to be a great race.”

Ricky Viers, No. 84 crew chief – "We tested in Milwaukee two days this week. It is a short track test and that will obviously help us this weekend. During the Richmond May race, we had our best qualifying effort of the year so far at 13th, and we will better prepared this time around. Coming off our best finish of the year last weekend at California Speedway, AJ is in rare form and the whole team is ready to go this weekend!"
