WIX FILTERS LAP LEADER NOTES FOR THE CROWN ROYAL 400 NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES RACE AT RICHMOND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY, MAY 6, 2007.
Jeff Gordon led three times for 114 laps to earn WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors in the Crown Royal 400. Gordon has led the most laps in each of the last two consecutive races and in three of the last four. He has led at least one lap in the last nine consecutive races.
Gordon claimed the WIX Filters Lap Leader Award for the fourth time this season and leads Tony Stewart (4-3) in the overall WIX Filters Lap Leader standings.
Gordon finished fourth in today’s race at Richmond. He collected his sixth consecutive top-five finish. Gordon has eight top-fives and nine top-10s in 10 races this season.
Gordon leads the NEXTEL Cup Series championship standings by 211 points over Jimmie Johnson.
GORDON QUOTES: WINNING THE WIX FILTERS LAP LEADER AWARD AGAIN SHOWS THE STRENGTH OF THIS TEAM. “Obviously qualifying good played a big role in that. We were pretty decent early on and we were trying to keep up with the changing conditions of the track and we just could never really get a handle on it. Once we lost that track position we just couldn’t ever get it back. But luckily we were up there leading and I’m kind of surprised we led the most laps. I thought some other guys had done it. That’s great. We shoot for that and get those bonus points every weekend.”
