Pocono 500 - Kyle Busch Notes

PREVIEW: KYLE BUSCH (NO. 5 KELLOGG'S/CARQUEST MONTE CARLO SS)
VENUE: POCONO RACEWAY (2.5-MILE TRIANGULAR TRACK)
CIRCUIT: NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES (RACE 13 OF 36)
EVENT: SUNDAY, JUNE 10, 2007 (200 LAPS, 500 MILES)

BUSCH AT POCONO: Kyle Busch, driver of the No. 5 Kellogg's/CARQUEST Monte Carlo SS, has made four NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series starts on the 2.5-mile triangular track of Pocono Raceway. In those events, he has notched one top-five finish and his average starting position is 20.75. He has yet to lead a NEXTEL Cup lap at Pocono, but set the track qualifying record and paced the most circuits in July 2003 ARCA competition.

TESTING THE MILWAUKEE MILE: Busch and his No. 5 Kellogg's/CARQUEST team will test a new Chevrolet Impala SS at the Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Wis., on June 12-13 in preparation for the July 1 NEXTEL Cup event at New Hampshire International Speedway. Busch is the defending event winner at New Hampshire.

WELCOME HOME, JOSH: Josh Kirk, the 27-year-old rear-tire changer on Busch's pit crew, is from Chambersburg, Pa., roughly two hours south of Pocono Raceway near the state capital of Harrisburg. This is Kirk's second year with the No. 5 Kellogg's/CARQUEST team.

CAR SELECTION FOR POCONO: Crew chief Alan Gustafson has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 422 as the primary Monte Carlo SS for this weekend's NEXTEL Cup event at Pocono. The car will make its maiden voyage at the 2.5-mile track in Long Pond, Pa.

TWO OPPORTUNITIES TO MEET KYLE: Fans will have two opportunities this week to meet NEXTEL Cup driver Kyle Busch. He is appearing at the Lyon's Fire Department Racefest in Lyon Station, Pa., from 5-7 p.m. local time on Thursday and will sign autographs on Sunday at 11 a.m. at the No. 5 Kellogg's/CARQUEST souvenir trailer at Pocono Raceway.

KYLE BUSCH, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S/CARQUEST MONTE CARLO SS: (ON SUCCESS AT POCONO.) "I've run well at Pocono in ARCA. We set a track record for qualifying and also led the most laps there before we got wrecked. We've run OK with the Kellogg's/CARQUEST Chevy there, but really never challenged for a lead or anything. We built a brand new car for this race, and it should be good right off the truck. I would like to see us win a race at Pocono."

BUSCH: (ON 500 MILES AT POCONO.) "This race is about 100 miles too long. The field gets so spread out that you can have the top four or five cars two or three seconds apart 20 laps into the race. It might be more competitive and see closer finishes if the race was shortened."

BUSCH: (ON THE PASSING OF BILL FRANCE JR.) "My thoughts and prayers go out to the France family at this difficult time. I was fortunate enough to spend some time with Mr. France last winter fishing with him on his boat. It was a pleasure to spend that time with him, and he is one person I wish I was able to spend even more time with. The sport will certainly miss him, but we wouldn't do what we do today without his efforts."

ALAN GUSTAFSON, CREW CHIEF OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S/CARQUEST MONTE CARLO SS: (ON DOVER TROUBLES AND POCONO POTENTIAL.) "Last week at Dover, that was my fault. The bump stop we ran on the right-front shock fell off twice. It was a call we made to run them and it bit us. We worked hard as a team to get the 17th-place finish out of it and it actually helped us in the points a little. Pocono is a place where we've historically run well -- not setting the world on fire, but just a solid run. My goal over the next few races is to be solid."
