Pocono 500 - Bill Elliott Notes

POCONO’S WINNINGEST DRIVER SET TO TAKE THE 21 TEAM FORWARD

When the Wood Brothers/JTG race team signed Bill Elliott to take over the driving duties of the No. 21 Little Debbie Ford, the intent was to take advantage of Elliott’s past champions’ provisional, if need be, to vault the team back into the top-35 in points. Two weeks in, Elliott still has all six available, and the team is making moderate, if not gutsy, progress. This weekend should offer a golden opportunity for the organization as Elliott is a Master at the tricky 2.5-mile Pocono Raceway. His five wins there rank as the most for any active driver in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series.

In 44 starts at Pocono Raceway, Elliott has five wins, 14 top-fives and 22 top-10 finishes. In addition, he has three Bud Pole Awards and has led 427 laps of competition.

The Wood Brothers/JTG team is taking Chassis 85 to Pocono Raceway this weekend, where it will see its first action as a primary car in 2007. The car was used abundantly in 2006, but has been rebuilt from the ground up. Prior to making the journey this weekend, Chassis 85 spent four hours last week in the AeroDyn Wind Tunnel in Mooresville, NC. If the downforce numbers are to be believed, the car should be able to produce some predictably positive results for Elliott and the 21 Team. Hopefully, it will be a weekend of new beginnings.

And speaking of new beginnings, Wood Brothers/JTG Racing Crew Chief Michael McSwain welcomed the second child to his family, Michael Wyatt McSwain, on Monday night. Mother and child are both reportedly doing fine.

WHAT THE TEAM HAS TO SAY
Bill Elliott, driver of the No. 21 Little Debbie Ford:
“I always look forward to running at Pocono and this weekend I’ll be hoping we can cash in, of sorts, on some points come Sunday. This is a great group of guys to work with and I’m having the best time I’ve ever had driving these cars. I want to be able to do everything possible and work as hard as I can to help these guys out—they deserve it.”

Michael McSwain, Crew Chief of the No. 21 Little Debbie Ford:
“Even though our last two finishes don’t tell the story properly, we’re learning a lot about each other right now and we’re real close to putting it all together on the same weekend. We’ve obviously still got a few issues to figure out, but having a plan is a good place to start.”
