NNCS Phoenix Advance
Race: Checker Auto Parts 500 on Sunday, Nov.11
Track: Phoenix International Raceway (1-mile oval)
Location: Avondale, Ariz.
Reed Sorenson and the No. 41 Target Dodge Team Facts:
Arizona native: Target team transport driver Brian Darr is a native of Arizona, hailing from Tempe. Darr joined CGRFS this season and previously worked with Andretti-Green Racing. He’s been involved in motorsports for 10 years. Darr also helps with pit support and is the gas runner on race day.
Say Cheese: Sorenson spent a few extra days at Texas Motor Speedway this week, participating in the 2008 Target creative photo shoot with Target teammates and IRL drivers Scott Dixon and Dan Wheldon.
What the Driver Said: “I really like Phoenix and we’ve had some really good runs there in the Busch car. We finished top 15 in the Cup race there earlier this season in the CoT and our program has improved tremendously since that race. We’re using the same car we raced at Martinsville a few weeks ago and we were running in the top five with it before having some transmission issues. I’m really excited about the gains we’ve made on the CoT and I’m looking forward to this weekend. The Target team has been running strong lately, even if we don’t necessarily have all of the results to show it.”
Points Update: Sorenson and the Target team maintained 22nd position in the overall NEXTEL Cup Series driver standings after the completion of the last event at Texas. The team is 198 points out of 20th with two races remaining in the 2007 season.
Chassis: Crew chief Elledge has selected chassis #732 for this weekend’s race at Phoenix. This is the same car the team used at the second Martinsville race, both New Hampshire races and the first Dover race, with a best finish of 14th coming in the second New Hampshire event.
Be Sure To Tune In: The Checker Auto Parts 500 is set to go green at 3:30 p.m. ET and will air live on ABC, MRN and Sirius Satellite Radio channel 128.
