Subway Fresh Fit 500 - Kyle Busch Notes

PREVIEW: KYLE BUSCH (NO. 5 CARQUEST/ KELLOGG'S IMPALA SS)
VENUE: PHOENIX INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY (ONE-MILE OVAL)
CIRCUIT: NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES (RACE EIGHT OF 36)
EVENT: SATURDAY, APRIL 21, 2007 (312 LAPS, 312 MILES)

BUSCH IN THE IMPALA SS: With Kyle Busch taking the checkered flag at Bristol, Tenn., and teammate Jimmie Johnson scoring a win at Martinsville, Va., Hendrick Motorsports has been successful with the new Impala SS race car. Busch has an average finish of 2.5 and an average running position of 6.4 in the "Car of Tomorrow" races. He and teammate Jeff Gordon are the only two drivers to finish in the top five in both events.

THE SOPHOMORE SLUMP AT PHOENIX: In 2005, Busch scored an eighth-place finish in the spring event at Phoenix International Raceway and followed it up with a win in the fall race. But 2006 was not so kind. Although Busch won the pole for the April race as a NEXTEL Cup Series sophomore, he was involved in an accident and relegated to a 36th-place showing. He also experienced on-track misfortune in the fall race of '06 and had to settle for a 38th-place result.

VOTE FOR BUSCH: Busch is one of 19 drivers eligible for this year's Talladega/Texaco Walk of Fame, located in the Davey Allison Memorial Park in Talladega, Ala. The driver who receives the most votes will be inducted. Fans may vote at www.talladegawalk.com from April 15-July 15.

CAR SELECTION FOR PHOENIX: Crew chief Alan Gustafson has made Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 418 the Impala SS of choice for this weekend's NEXTEL Cup festivities at Phoenix. The team tested the car at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway earlier this month.

KYLE BUSCH MOTORSPORTS, TEAM SPONSOR: Busch will be on hand for Thursday evening's NASCAR Grand National West Series event at PIR to keep a watchful eye on 17-year-old Alex Hasse. Hasse, a Las Vegas native and friend of Busch's, will pilot the No. 84 Kyle Busch Motorsports/Motorway Motorgroup Chevrolet in the NASCAR Grand National West Series event. It marks Busch's first foray into the world of sponsorship with his company, Kyle Busch Motorsports.

KYLE BUSCH, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 CARQUEST/KELLOGG'S IMPALA SS: (ON RACING AT PHOENIX.) "I love Phoenix. It's a cool place. It's the first track I ever saw a Cup race at -- and Terry Labonte won it, so it's special that I'm lucky enough to drive the No. 5 car there. I run well there so it's a great place for me."

BUSCH: (ON PIT ROAD SPEEDING.) "Last year we won the pole for this race (at Phoenix) and our first problem was that I was busted for speeding on pit road. I'll tell you what, that extra 100 rpm doesn't matter to me anymore. I've had guys pass me on pit road and I know NASCAR gives you a five-mile-an-hour buffer, but I've been busted too many times and it's not worth it to me. I will be doing the speed limit this season."

BUSCH: (ON THE TRACK CONFIGURATION AT PHOENIX.) "The coolest thing about Phoenix for a driver is the difference between all the corners. Turns one and two are pretty tight and have a little more banking, and turns three and four are wider and broader corners with not as much banking. It's a flat mile race track and I somehow run well on those flat tracks for some reason. They suit my style, I guess."
