Phoenix International Raceway News and Notes

  • This Week’s Toyota…The No. 36 360 OTC Toyota Camry Jeremy Mayfield is scheduled to drive this weekend in the Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Raceway is COT 09. This is the same car the team ran at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway. It was also tested at Caraway Speedway several weeks ago.
  • What Happened Last Week…Mother Nature intervened last weekend at Texas Motor Speedway and a band of strong storms brought heavy rain to the area just before the start of qualifying. NASCAR officials were forced to cancel qualifying and thus, the No. 36 team did not make the field for the event.
  • Mayfield’s Career Stats…Mayfield will make his 406th career NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series start when he takes the green flag Saturday evening. He made his first career Cup Series start in October 1993 at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway and finished 20th (qualified 41st) in his first Cup Series start at PIR in 1994.
  • Mayfield in Phoenix…Mayfield has made 13 starts on the one-mile oval during his Cup Series career and has started inside the top 10 on two occasions. He has also earned one a runner-up finish (2000) at the track.
  • BDR at PIR…Competitors driving Bill Davis Racing-owned cars have been racing at the Avondale, Ariz. track since 1993 and have made 21 starts. Those drivers have posted three top-10 finishes and have completed 5,920 of 6,500 possible laps (91.1 percent).
  • Phoenix Broadcast Schedule…Qualifying for the Subway Fresh Fit 500 is scheduled to start at 8:10 p.m. ET Thursday, April 19. The 312-mile event is scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m. ET Saturday, April 21, and will broadcast LIVE on FOX (TV), MRN (radio) and Sirius Satellite Radio.

Jeremy Mayfield on Phoenix International Raceway…“We’re looking forward to getting to Phoenix because we think our strongest area right now is our Car of Tomorrow program. Obviously we were disappointed not making the race last weekend in Texas because we had some momentum going having made the previous two races, but there’s nothing we can do about the weather, so we can’t spend any time dwelling on it. Like I said, we’re just really excited about Phoenix because we know we’re headed in the right direction. ”
