WIX FILTERS LAP LEADER NOTES FOR THE SYLVANIA 300 NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES RACE AT NEW HAMPSHIRE INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2007.
Clint Bowyer led six times for 222 laps to earn WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors in today’s Sylvania 300. Bowyer claimed the honor for the second time this season and has led 306 laps in 10 races this season.
Bowyer scored his first NEXTEL Cup Series victory in today’s Sylvania 300, crossing the finish line 6.469 seconds ahead of Jeff Gordon. Bowyer’s victory was his third top-five and 13th top-10 finish of the season. He is the FOURTH first-time race winner this season, joining Casey Mears, Martin Truex Jr. and Juan Pablo Montoya.
UNOFFICIALLY Bowyer is third in the NEXTEL Cup Series championship standings, 15 points behind leader Jimmie Johnson.
BOWYER QUOTES: It’ s just incredible to even be a part of the NEXTEL Cup and to be able to drive these cars and have a team like Gil [Martin, crew chief] has put together. It’s an honor and a privilege and something I owe Richard [Childress, car owner] a lot. I wish he was here to celebrate this but we finally got it done for him. We did our job and did what we were supposed to do. It’s such a fun thing to be able to celebrate with those guys. These guys work so hard week in and week out and to be able to finally win a race with those guys and be able to celebrate that, that means a lot.” WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME THAT YOU WERE THAT DOMINENT IN A RACE? “I tell ya, it was right here in a Busch car. I’ll never forget it. I think it was last year, we dominated the spring race, I believe it was, led all the laps, came in and pitted and the caution came out and we were a lap down and never could get it back. We got up to like fifth. That was a dominant race car. All day long we had ‘em covered and my good buddy Carl [Edwards] ended up beating me with a smile on his face. It feels good to finally come back to this place where I’ve had good runs here but we haven’t had good finishes. To finally get one here it feels good.”
In the six most recent NASCAR NEXTEL Cup races at New Hampshire, the WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race has now scored FOUR wins and has finished no worse than fourth.
The driver leading the most laps in the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire has now started from the pole FIVE times in 11 fall races.
Jeff Gordon leads Tony Stewart by two races (7-5) in the overall WIX Filters Lap Leader standings.
