#88 TEAM AIMS TO EXPAND CAR OF TOMORROW SUCCESS IN NEW HAMPSHIRE
CHARLOTTE, NC (June 26, 2007) – This weekend the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series travels to New Hampshire International Speedway for the LENOX Industrial Tools 300. Coming off their best-finish of the season (11th) this past weekend in Sonoma, Ricky Rudd and the #88 Snickers Racing team look to carry that momentum into New Hampshire for another Car of Tomorrow (COT) race in which the team hopes their new approach with the car’s set-up will translate into results.
Quoting Snickers Driver, Ricky Rudd:
Reflecting on Sonoma this past weekend, what was the key to your season-best finish?
“I’m actually really happy with the finish we had with our Snickers Ford. We didn’t run as well as we had hoped for this weekend, but considering that we were able to run the entire race with only two pit stops, I think that really was the key to coming out of Sonoma with a really good finish. We were able to benefit from fuel mileage and thanks to some hard work from our crew we were able to get our best finish of the season so far.”
Looking ahead to New Hampshire this weekend, what changes are you and the crew looking at?
"New Hampshire has been a good track for me in the past. I’ve had one win there and quite a few top-five finishes. It’s a good track but the key to New Hampshire is that you need to have a good handling car there. It has become a track that over the years all the Cup series cars generally have issues with their handling in the turns there. I’ll feel better about it once we get unloaded this weekend and I can run some laps in practice and gauge where we’re at. We’ve had a lot of improvements on our Car of Tomorrow program and I know that the guys are working hard to get the success that we want out of it. We based our car for this weekend off of the car set-up we ran in Martinsville actually. We had a great performing car in Martinsville and the goal is to translate some of that knowledge into a car that will be successful this weekend.”
Quoting Snickers Crew Chief, Butch Hylton:
“The Car of Tomorrow is something that we’re all still trying to analyze and figure out. I think that the one thing we need to work on is just to get more consistent finishes out of our Snickers Ford for the rest of the season. Earlier on in the year we just kept getting caught up in trouble and that reflected in our finishes. We are actually going to try something a little different with our set-up this weekend in New Hampshire and hopefully that will be just what we’ve been looking for on the performance side for our Car of Tomorrow program.”
