+ QUOTES
Brian Vickers, No. 83 driver:
“The COT races just haven’t been our forte this year — you can tell that just by looking at the stats. We’re testing and trying to make our COT program better, so I’m confident that we’re coming into this race even better prepared than last time, but we still have to be good enough to get in the show. Nothing’s changed this year for us. Race weekend is still all about qualifying day. We’re in the homestretch now with just five races left, so we hope we can make all five races and finish the year off strong.”
Doug Richert, No. 83 crew chief:
“We didn’t make the race the first time around at Martinsville, but that’s not going to stop us from getting in the show this time. We’ve been doing a lot of testing to come up with a better package for our cars on flat, short tracks, so we’re hoping the time and effort pays off this weekend. We’re bringing a different race car this time, so we’ll give it a whirl on Friday and see where we stack up when qualifying starts.”
AJ Allmendinger, No. 84 driver:
“Running well last weekend in Charlotte felt really great, and it was definitely a big confidence boost for the whole team. But Martinsville is a totally different deal this week. It’s going to be tough race to qualify into, and once you’re in it is going to be a tough place to run well. We’ve tested in preparation for this race, and I know the momentum from Charlotte will help. Our goal is to make these last five races and finish the season strong. I think if we can get through Martinsville and have a decent run to build off of for next year, that is the most important thing.”
Ricky Viers, No. 84 crew chief:
“Martinsville was the second race we made this year. Throughout the season we’ve worked extremely hard on our COT program, especially flat tracks, and we definitely have a better package going back. We tested in Greenville two days last week to prepare, and the whole team has a lot of confidence going into this weekend coming off our great run in Charlotte. I think we have a good opportunity to back up our top 15 with another top-15 finish.”
