JUAN PABLO MONTOYA, No. 42 TEXACO/HAVOLINE DODGE: YOU HAD A GOOD RACE TODAY. “We had a good day. We worked on the car all day and couldn’t get where we wanted to be, but I think in general it was a great day. A top-10 here, it’s a big thing.” IS THIS ONE OF THE BEST RACES THAT YOU’VE DRIVEN ALL YEAR? “Probably Indy. This was pretty good for a short track. We did the ultimate: qualify bad and race good and that is pretty good.” DID YOU NEED A LONG GREEN FLAG RUN AT THE END? “Yeah, we were better on the shorter runs but even like that we managed to keep up.”

DONNIE WINGO, CREW CHIEF, No. 42 TEXACO/HAVOLINE DODGE: “It was a good day all around. When you come to Martinsville and the guy has only been here for the second time, he improved a lot from when we come for the first race, not only his driving but the car. I think we improved the cars a lot when we came back this time. We just didn’t get a good qualifying effort and had to gamble there the mid part of the race and got up front and stayed up there.” DID ALL THE CAUTIONS AT THE END OF THE RACE HELP YOU? DID YOU NEED A LONG GREEN FLAG RUN? “No, not really. I think it kind of played in our hand since we did stay out there. We made our last pit stop and we stayed out there and kept time off the tires and green laps off the tires. The biggest thing here is track position. We got ourself up there and put ourself in position. We led a few laps today, first time we done under green I think all year so that’s pretty good [smiles].” IS THIS ONE OF THE MOST IMPRESSIVE THINGS THAT MONTOYA HAS DONE THIS YEAR? “It is. I mean, I though the first race was impressive until this race. But the whole team, everybody has worked hard on these COT cars and I think we’ve made some big improvements since the first race. All the guys in the fab shop and everybody in engineering, everybody has worked real hard to try to improve these cars and I think it’s showing here today.” HOW DIFFICULT WAS THIS RACE FOR YOU TO CALL? “It is, but when you start where we started, you’ve got to take chances early on in the race or midway through the race to get the track position that you need. And we kind of got off-sequence with some of the guys but happened to be on sequence with the leader so that helped us out a lot.” THIS RUN MUST GIVE YOU GUYS A BIG BOOST OF MOMENTUM. “It just shows that we’re making improvements. We’re making improvements with the car and he’s getting more comfortable with the car and the biggest thing going into next year is we need to make some improvements on these COTs since we’re going to be running them everywhere.” CAN YOU TELL THE OTHER DRIVERS ARE NOT RACING HIM LIKE A ROOKIE? “On yeah. When you look at the brakes, how much brake he’s still got left on the car, he’s got over three-eighths of an inch of pad still left on the pad and here at Martinsville with these cars the way they are, heavy as they are to stop, that’s pretty huge.”
