3M Performance 400 - Rookie Sunday Quotes
PAUL MENARD, No. 15 MENARDS CHEVROLET: DOES A SITUATION LIKE THIS DRIVE YOU NUTS? “The waiting part stinks because you don’t really have a schedule that you can stick to. You try to stay close and just hear what you hear as it comes along.” THIS HAS BEEN A TOUGH YEAR FOR YOU BUT THIS TRACK HAS BEEN GOOD TO PAUL MENARD. “Actually I think our Cup car is better for this race than it was in the first race. We unloaded and we weren’t that good but we changed quite a few things and hit on something that we found in Kentucky testing a couple of months ago and it’s working here.” IF WE RACE ON MONDAY, HOW DOES THAT AFFECT YOUR SCHEDULE? “We were going to test in Iowa Tuesday and Wednesday so right now we’re trying to figure out what we need to do with that, if we postpone it a week or if we’re going to get this in tomorrow, which tomorrow doesn’t look very good either. Right now it’s just hurry up and wait and make plans so we have to fall back on if we don’t get it in tomorrow.” WHEN THIS RACE DOES START, WILL THE TRACK CHANGE A LOT? “The Busch race obviously rubbered up quite a bit yesterday and now all that’s gone. The Busch race yesterday, it seemed like, as it got cooler it got looser. If it stays cool it’ll be a little bit freer than probably what it was yesterday and with less rubber it’ll probably make it looser yet. It’ll probably be a lot of cars complaining loose but we have a lot of adjustability in the car so we’ll see.” CAN YOU TELL THAT BEING LOCKED IN HAS HELPED YOUR RACE PERFORMANCE? “Yeah, I didn’t think it was going to be that big, honestly, but we unloaded Friday morning in race trim and kind of get a feel for what it’s going to do in race trim. If we’re not good or if we are good we can think about it. We have another night to think about it and be better prepared for Happy Hour on Saturday.”
FRANK KERR, CREW CHIEF, No. 00 DOMINOS.COM TOYOTA: “You’re all pumped up, no matter what happens, in the morning. You’re getting your stuff ready and getting prepared for the race. The weather has just really let everybody down and it doesn’t look much better for tomorrow. Hopefully we get it in sometime. You get all pumped up ready and you’re figuring out your car and the inspection process is coming
up and then it’s like ‘Okay this is it. We’re done for the day.’ It’s frustrating. I just hope we get in sometime before the end of the year [laughs].” WHAT IS YOUR THOUGHT PROCESS ABOUT MAKING CHANGES TO THE CAR? “Well it’s going to be a lot freer to start the race. I think probably within 50, 60 laps it’ll be back to the way it was. I don’t know if it’ll be as wide as it gets right away. That’ll probably be about halfway or 90 into it. It’ll get back that way. You just have to keep working on your car all day because it’s going to change drastically.”
