Raybestos Rookie Paul Menard caused a brief delay in the final practice session this afternoon when an oil line came loose on his Chevrolet. Menard took Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors in the June race at Michigan, scoring a season-best 12th-place finish.
PAUL MENARD, No. 15 MENARDS CHEVROLET: THERE WAS A LOT OF SMOKE FROM THE CAR EARLIER IN THIS SESSION. WHAT HAPPENED? “Just a loose oil line. The oil line is behind the water pump so it’s hard to get to. We’re not really sure if it worked itself loose or if it was just never tight but we ran all weekend on it and just had the one problem. I’m kind of thinking that it worked itself loose so we’re going to make sure that it doesn’t do that again. I knew it didn’t blow up because the motor was running fine. It started smoking inside the cockpit so I had to shut it off. I’m glad it happened just now so we can fix it. It’s kind of the same deal that happened in Chicago, which unfortunately happened early in the race and messed up our whole day. At least we got this one early.”
