3M Performance 400 - Kyle Busch Notes

PREVIEW: KYLE BUSCH (NO. 5 CARQUEST/KELLOGG'S MONTE CARLO SS)
VENUE: MICHIGAN INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY (TWO-MILE D-SHAPED OVAL)
CIRCUIT: NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES (RACE 23 OF 36)
EVENT: SUNDAY, AUG. 19, 2007 (200 LAPS, 400 MILES)

MICHIGAN STATS: Although he has enjoyed success at Michigan International Speedway in other racing series, Kyle Busch is still seeking his first NASCAR NEXTEL Cup victory there. Busch led 87 laps en route to a win in the NASCAR Busch Series in August 2004, and he has also earned a pole position and two runner-up finishes in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. In five Cup starts, the 22-year-old driver has led 40 laps around the two-mile track and scored a career-best MIS finish of sixth in June.

MOMMA, I'M COMING HOME: Chris "Sunshine" Heroy, a third-year engineer with the No. 5 CARQUEST/Kellogg's Chevrolet team, was born in Coldwater, Mich., but calls nearby Angola, Ind., his hometown. He is the son of Michael and Christine Heroy, who still reside in Angola and typically make the 70-mile trek to Michigan International Speedway for the NEXTEL Cup event.

CALLING ALL KIDS: Busch is looking for a little assistance from young, creative minds all over the world to help design his new helmet. To enter the helmet design contest, visit www.kylebusch.com to download a helmet template and mail it in. The contest runs through Sept. 30 with Busch picking the winning helmet during the month of October. The lucky winner will receive a full-size replica helmet of their winning design. Children ages 18 and under are eligible.

CAR SELECTION FOR MICHIGAN: Crew chief Alan Gustafson has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 307 for this weekend's NEXTEL Cup event at Michigan. The car has a new body and has not seen action since 2005.

TAKE BUSCH OUT TO THE BALLGAME: Kyle Busch will make an appearance during "NASCAR Night" at the Cincinnati Reds ballpark on Aug. 20. Busch will join other NASCAR personalities, including former Hendrick Motorsports driver Terry Labonte, in greeting fans and signing autographs beginning at 5:30 p.m. local time. The Reds will take on Busch's favorite team, the Atlanta Braves, that evening.

BUSCH AT FOOD CITY IN BRISTOL: Prior to racing the high banks of Bristol Motor Speedway, Busch will participate in the Food City Family Race Night on State Street in downtown Bristol, Tenn., on Aug. 23. For the third straight year, Busch will sign autographs for fans on behalf of sponsor Kellogg's from 6-8 p.m. local time.

KYLE BUSCH, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 CARQUEST/KELLOGG'S MONTE CARLO SS: (ON THE BONUS POINTS FOR THE CHASE.) "I've heard a lot of the drivers who are solidly in the Chase saying that it's all about the bonus points. Since NASCAR has added the perk of giving each driver 10 extra points when the top 12 are reset, it's added some pressure. I think if we can get the win, then we're going to go for it. But risking tearing up a fifth-place car going for the win isn't worth it. If we were first in the points like Jeff Gordon's team right now, we'd be a little more aggressive trying to get more wins. But I've learned -- the hard way -- that it's better to finish than not finish."

BUSCH: (ON DISTRACTIONS.) "I don't think distractions have been a problem at all for this No. 5 CARQUEST/Kellogg's team. Our worst finish of the summer has been 13th at Chicago, so we're in this for the long haul. This team has a lot of talent, and as a driver I've been giving it my all. Even when things haven't gone well, we've recovered."
