3M Performance 400 - Reed Sorenson Notes

Reed Sorenson
NNCS Michigan Advance

Race: 3M Performance 400
Track: Michigan International Speedway (2-mile oval)
Location: Brooklyn, Mich.

Reed Sorenson and the No. 41 Target Dodge Team Facts:

  • Mastering Michigan: Reed Sorenson has just three starts at Michigan International Speedway (MIS) in the NEXTEL Cup Series, but his results are rather impressive. He posted a fifth-place finish in last year’s June event and followed that up with an eighth-place effort in August. Handling woes plagued the team in the June event this season, but the crew is determined to return to the ’06 form at the track this weekend.

  • Back in Action: Chassis #206, one of Sorenson’s and the Target team’s favorite cars will be seeing competition for the first time in almost a year this weekend at MIS. The car was the busiest in the team’s fleet in 2006, running a total of seven races (California, Las Vegas, Charlotte 1, Pocono 1, Indy, Dover 2 and Charlotte) with a best finish of 10th coming in the May Charlotte race. The car suffered serious damage in the second Charlotte race last season, but has since been rebuilt. The Target team ran this car a total of 11 races in 2005 with driver Casey Mears. The team recorded six top-10 finishes and two top-five finishes, including a sixth-place effort at Indianapolis and two near victories in the final events of the season at Texas Motor Speedway (fourth) and Homestead-Miami Speedway (fifth).

  • Points Update: The Target team dropped one position to 25th in the overall NEXTEL Cup Series standings after their 28th-place finish in the last event at Watkins Glen. The team is 173 points outside of the top 20 heading into Michigan.

  • CGRFS Going Primetime: ABC’s NASCAR in Primetime: an Inside Look at Life in the Fast Lane, is the first time that NASCAR has given any news organization uncensored access to its inner workings. ABC News spent six months following drivers and teams (including CGRFS), fans and officials, documenting everything that happened on and off the racetrack. The five-week, five-episode series begins airing on August 15 on ABC and continues for five consecutive weeks.

  • Be Sure to Tune In: The 3M Performance at MIS is set to go green at 2 p.m. ET Sunday. The race will air live on ESPN, MRN radio and Sirius Satellite Radio channel 128.
