UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 - Team Red Bull Notes

Team Red Bull
Las Vegas Advance

LAS VEGAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY
UAW-DAIMLER CHRYSLER 400 ADVANCE
ENTRIES: Red Bull Toyota — No. 83 Brian Vickers and No. 84 AJ Allmendinger
RACE: NEXTEL Cup, UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400
TRACK: Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Las Vegas, NV
DATES: March 9-11 2007

+ AGAINST ALL ODDS
Crew Chief Doug Richert called it a "nearly flawless" weekend at two-mile California Speedway when Brian Vickers qualified his Red Bull No. 83 in 15th and ran up front all afternoon and scored a 10th place finish in the team’s first NASCAR NEXTEL Cup points race. Heading into race No. 3, the No. 83 is now looking for a repeat of good fortune in Vegas.

Meanwhile, like a slow moving buffet line in old Vegas, AJ Allmendinger's No. 84 had little precious practice track time in California because of inspection line delays out of their control. Nevertheless, AJ continued to show improvement and just missed making the Auto Club 500 by less than a tenth of a second, even though he recorded only 10 laps (ever) at the California Speedway. He’s already got a few in Vegas, so odds are more to his favor.

Lest you forget, as a new team, both cars must qualify on time, not 2006 top 35 owner points.

+ HOSPITALTY … VEGAS STYLE
Remember, what happens in the Red Bull Energy Station stays in the Red Bull Energy Station. Where else better to debut Red Bull’s take on NASCAR hospitality than in Sin City itself? During race weekend, the two-story, 5,000 sq. ft. Energy Station will stand outside Turn 3 facing all the on-track action. By law, it won't have blackjack, slots, or a sportsbook, but it is equipped to entertain 150 Red Bull guests with high-end eats and a bar stocked with, of course, plenty of Red Bull. Brian and AJ will pop in on Sunday to mix and mingle with the spinning sounds of a celebrity DJ. (We know who it is. We're just not telling you.)

+ IS THAT WHAT I THINK IT IS?
It's a bird. It's a plane. It's a ... helicopter? Believe what you're seeing when America’s only aerobatic helicopter completes loops, rolls and back flips -- maneuvers that were once unimaginable except for fixed-winged aircraft. It takes a gutsy and talented pilot to man the controls of Red Bull's BO-105 CBS stock helicopter while working through tricks like the Half-Cuban Eight and the Split-S. Enter Chuck Aaron, the only pilot licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration to fly aerobatics in a helicopter. Chances are if it has rotors, Chuck's flown it. Check out Chuck's amazing aerial antics behind the backstretch prior to Sunday’s race start.

+ SPEED DEALERS IN THE SKY
A concrete wall rushes up on AJ and Brian at ridiculous speeds. For the Red Bull Air Force, it's the Earth that's staring them in the face as gravity takes over at 180 miles per hour. The Red Bull Air Force is comprised of elite aerial athletes that flirt with the edge -- often going beyond it -- in the sports of skydiving, hang gliding, paragliding and BASE jumping. In Vegas, it will be the skydiving crew led by national champion skydivers Jon Devore and Andy Farrington, who will swirl, smoke and swoop their way into LVMS at speeds and precision not typically seen during your standard NASCAR pre-race festivity. There’s no time to carry a flag on this mission. Catch them drop just prior to Saturday’s Busch Series race start.

+ QUOTES
Brian Vickers, driver, No. 83 – “Going into Las Vegas, we really have to make sure we stay focused on our goals. We went into California with the mindset that we first needed to qualify and second needed to run all of the laps in the race. We stayed true to our mission and accomplished both of those things, so we’re going to Vegas trying to do the same thing again. These small goals are important, but there’s also a bigger picture we’re looking at here – and that’s to make sure we’re locked into the top 35 in points after the first five races. We’ve got three races to go, and anything can happen.”

Doug Richert, crew chief, No. 83 -- “I’m going to win a million [gambling]! OK, just kidding. For the racing part of going to Las Vegas, we’re aiming for getting another decent qualifying effort, running all the laps in the race and backing up the great run we had in California. We should be just as competitive in Vegas as we were in California, and we’re always striving to improve upon our last result. The setup we run will be similar to the setup we ran in California and we were successful there, so that’s encouraging.”

AJ Allmendinger, driver, No. 84 – “More than anything I am looking forward to coming back to a track I have gotten laps on in a Cup car. This team has really started to gel, and I think all our hard work will pay off in Vegas.”

Ricky Viers, crew chief, No. 84 – “We are coming back to Vegas to redeem ourselves from the Vegas test. We are coming off a good test in Bristol, and I think we can build off that and our previous lap time here and start our first Cup race on Sunday.”
