UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 - Ken Schrader Notes

SCHRADER NEEDS LADY LUCK TO ARRIVE IN LAS VEGAS

Ken Schrader isn’t exactly taking a weekend off as teammate Jon Wood makes his NASCAR NEXTEL Cup debut this weekend at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Schrader will drive the No. 47 Ore-Ida/Kingsford/Clorox Ford in the UAW-Daimler Chrysler 400 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

While down for the January Las Vegas test, Schrader turned the 26th fastest overall lap in qualifying trim. Usually racing for sponsors Little Debbie, Air Force or Motorcraft, Ken Schrader gets a chance this weekend to represent brand new Wood Brothers/JTG sponsor Ore-Ida Extra Crispy Fries, Kingsford Charcoal and Clorox. The No. 47 car is sporting a flashy red paint scheme with white stripes.

Ken Schrader has nine starts under his belt at the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway. His best start was a 14th place effort in 2005 and his best finish was a 16th place effort in 2003. He has managed to complete 94% of the total laps he’s run in all nine races since the track hosted its first event.

The first two races of 2007 haven’t exactly gone Schrader’s way—he finished 35th at Daytona as a result of a no-fault accident just 15 laps from the finish and he had a mechanical problem the following week at California Speedway that led to a 36th place finish.

That being said, there is one place many souls turn to have their luck come around—Las Vegas, Nevada. And the No. 47 Ore-Ida/Kingsford/Clorox team is hoping for the best from Lady Luck.

WHAT THE TEAM HAS TO SAY Ken Schrader, Driver of the No. 47 Ore-Ida/Kingsford/Clorox Ford: “I’ve always like the intermediate tracks and Las Vegas is the true version of an intermediate track for us. The new banking didn’t exactly throw us a curve ball and, in fact, I think it’s going to lead to some great side-by-side racing throughout the afternoon. I’d like to be up front for all of it if we can and at least I’ll finally have me a teammate out there.”

Michael McSwain, Crew Chief of the No. 47 Ore-Ida/Kingsford/Clorox Ford: “I’m really looking forward to Friday morning. We’ve got a lot on our plate this weekend and it’s going to show whether or not these guys have done their homework. I know that they’re ready, but I want everyone else to see it so the guys can get the credit they deserve. We have a great car underneath us this week and I’m looking forward to getting a good finish for these sponsors that have stepped up and allowed us to run a second car out there.”
