Coca-Cola 600 - Rookie Post-Race Quotes
JUAN PABLO MONTOYA, No. 42 TEXACO/HAVOLINE DODGE: “All I saw was the tire flying. The tire was flying and as soon as I saw the tire off I checked-up at the start finish line. I managed to slow down my car but I just get pushed from behind into the 9 car and that was it.” HOW BAD IS THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR? “We broke the radiator and we’re just waiting to get it fixed and try to get some points.” YOU NEVER REALLY GOT A CHANCE TO RACE TONIGHT. “No, we just cruised all day long, had a really fast car and that’s it. That’s what we got.”
AJ ALLMENDINGER, No. 84 RED BULL TOYOTA: “With Jimmie, I just got under him and it’s one of those things you don’t want to fight with the leaders but you can see the lead lap right back in front of you. There’s two cars that are fighting and we’ve got to start these races better. We’re terrible when we start these races. We start so bad, just drop to the back every time and it just makes an uphill fighting. That’s partly me, not so much describe the information to ‘em but just about what I need to feel in the car to start the race, to start it loose and how loose and what it needs to be. But we just need to get better at that. I just got under Jimmie and went to throttle and he didn’t give me much room but that’s his choice. I just got the air taken off me and got up into him and I hated it. I was glad I didn’t wreck him. I apologized as much as I could to my spotter to tell his. That’s pretty much the first incident.” WAS THE SECOND ONE JUST UNAVOIDABLE? “Yeah. I saw Tony spin. I just saw it all in front of me, what was going to happen. I seen him get loose in the middle of the corner and I knew where he was going so I missed him. Unfortunately, Jeff was in the grass trying to miss him, came back up and we hit pretty good.” HOW HARD WAS THE HIT? “It was hard but luckily wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be. It actually didn’t bend much on the car. Bent a couple of things so we’re just trying to throw the front end back on the car and see if we can reach minimum speed and run the laps because the way it’s looking, hell, probably get a top-10 out of it still [smiles].”
DAVID RAGAN, No. 6 AAA FORD: “My spotter was doing a great job. He told me that the 99 was having a problem and of course I could see that. I just thought he would come up the track a lot faster. I really feel bad for all the Office Depot guys. I really hated to get into Carl. He was coming across the track. I thought he would come a lot faster than he did. I thought I could squeeze through in the middle. I was just trying not to wreck myself and turned it down the hill and guess what, I wrecked myself. Tough night for the AAA team. But what a great race car. We had a lot of fun and we’ll get ‘em at Dover next week. Our AAA Ford Fusion was pretty strong. We started in the back. Really loose to start off with and the sun started coming down and just kind of played into our favor. I felt like at any given time we had a top-five or top-10 car and I was just kind of cruising, just trying not to do anything crazy and jeopardize a good finish. I’m real disappointed that we’re sitting in the garage right now. I really hate that it had to be my teammate Carl Edwards. I really hate we ruined his night, also.” COMMENT ON THE TIRES. “I haven’t been around long enough to know what’s right and what’s wrong. They felt fine to me. I think if your car is handling fine they’re alright. You just can’t drive as hard as you’d like to. But these guys prepared a great race car.”
