Final First: Juan Pablo Montoya’s visit to Kansas Speedway will be his final trip to a track unknown. It is the only track left on the 2007 NASCAR schedule that Montoya has yet to compete. The 1.5-mile speedway is considered by many similar to Chicagoland Speedway where he and the Texaco/Havoline team started 30th and finished 15th in July.
The Texaco/Havoline crew led by Crew Chief Donnie Wingo has seen success at Kansas Speedway however. Last season the No. 42 Dodge team finished second in Kansas. Since the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Team’s inception in 2003, Wingo and the crew have amassed three top-10 finishes and one top-five finish in just four starts.
Standings: Montoya’s 10-place run at Dover International Speedway moved him up one position in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup season from 20th to 19th. Montoya and the Texaco/Havoline team have earned three outside-poles, one win, two-top five and five top-10 finishes this season.
Rookie Race: Montoya earned his 12th Rookie of the Race honor last weekend at Dover International Speedway with his 10th-place finish. He increased his points lead over David Ragan in the standings to 15 (222-207) with eight races remaining in the 2007 season. Montoya’s 19th-place standing in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup points is also the best of any rookie. Jamie McMurray, driver for Texaco/Havoline in 2003, was Rookie of the Race at Kansas Speedway with his Wingo-led team. McMurray drove the No. 42 Dodge to an eighth-place finish.
Chassis: Crew Chief Donnie Wingo and the Texaco/Havoline team are bringing chassis #706 to Kansas Speedway this weekend. The team has utilized this chassis five times this season earning two of its four top-10 finishes of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup season. Chassis #706 has run at Texas (eighth-place finish), Atlanta (fifth-place finish), Pocono (20th-place finish), Chicagoland (15th-place finish) and Michigan (26th-place finish).
