Kevin Harvick
No. 29 Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet
Event Preview Fact Sheet

Event/Date: LifeLock 400 – September 30, 2007
Venue: Kansas Speedway – Kansas City, Kan.

NOTES:

  • This Week’s Race Car at Kansas Speedway … Kevin Harvick will pilot Chassis No. 120 from the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) stable. This is the same Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet Harvick drove to a seventh-place finish in July at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Additionally, the Bakersfield, Calif., native drove this chassis to Victory Lane last November at Phoenix International Raceway and in September at New Hampshire International Raceway.
  • Stat Facts … In six NASCAR Cup Series starts at Kansas, Harvick has tallied one top 10 finish and has an average starting spot of 21.3 coupled with an average finish of 17.8. He has completed 1,493 of the 1,602 laps contested and has led a total of 49 laps. Additionally, “Happy” captured a NASCAR Busch Series win in 2006 at Kansas Speedway.
  • One Trophy Missing from the Shelf … In 17 races at Kansas Speedway, dating back to 2001, team owner Richard Childress has yet to take home the winner’s trophy. Over that span, the Welcome, N.C.-based operation has earned one top-five and three top-10 finishes with drivers Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton and Harvick. The only other tracks on the current schedule where RCR hasn’t earned Cup Series wins are California Speedway, Homestead-Miami Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
  • Finish it Off … Harvick has been running at the finish of 36 consecutive races. Harvick’s last Did Not Finish (DNF) came in September 2006 at Dover International Speedway when his engine expired with 34 laps remaining.
  • Made to Move … Harvick climbed one spot in the NASCAR Cup point standings after his 20th-place finish at Dover International Speedway. The 2007 Daytona 500 winner now sits in ninth, 115 markers out of the lead and 105 markers out of the top five.
  • Still in the Hunt … Last year after two races were completed in the Chase, 2006 NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson was 136 points out of the lead. He finished 39th in New Hampshire and 13th in Dover with an average finish of 26th. Johnson went on to tally five top-five and six top-10 finishes in the final eight races to capture his first NASCAR Cup Series championship. Right now, Harvick is in much better shape as he is only 115 points out of the lead. He finished 17th at New Hampshire and 20th at Dover with an average finish of 18.5.
  • Dirt is for Racing, Pavement is for Getting There … On Friday, September 28 Harvick will race one of Bowyer’s dirt modified’s at Lakeside Speedway. Lakeside Speedway is a three-eighths mile slightly-banked dirt oval located in Kansas City, Kansas. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the night of the race. For more information call (913) 299-2040.
  • Double Down … In addition to his driving duties with the No. 29 Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet, Harvick, a 31-time race winner in the NASCAR Busch Series, will drive the No. 77 Dollar General Stores Chevrolet in the September 29 Yellow Transportation 300 at Kansas Speedway. The race will be televised on ESPN2 beginning at 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). The event will also be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the 30th race of the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series will be televised on SPEED the same day beginning at 11 a.m. EDT.
  • Up to Speed … Live coverage of the LifeLock 400 at Kansas Speedway will take the green flag Sunday, September 30 beginning at 1 p.m. EDT and will be telecast on ABC. The event will also be broadcast live on MRN and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the 29th of 36 points-paying NASCAR Cup Series races will air live on ESPN2, MRN and Sirius Satellite Radio Friday, September 28 at 4 p.m. EDT.

    KEVIN HARVICK QUOTES:
Do you look forward to going back to the Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS?
“They both present different challenges. You just race whatever you have underneath you and whether it’s the Car of Tomorrow or it’s the old style car, you just go out and race and do the best you can. I don’t think the crews look forward to switching back and forth. They have to completely change their thought process with each car. One type of adjustment may work on one car but not the other. So I think it puts a little added pressure on the crew.”

You only have one top-10 finish at Kansas. Why do you think you guys have struggled there in the past?
“Past stats don’t mean anything. We have been able to step up our mile-and-a-half program over the past year. Kansas is a lot like Chicagoland except for where the bumps are located and we were able to finish fourth there in July. We should be as good or better this weekend.”
