SCHRADER TAKES AIM AT KANSAS WITH TEAMMATE IN TOW
Due to a last minute lineup change, Ken Schrader will once again be back behind the wheel of the No. 21 Little Debbie Ford for the third straight week this weekend at Kansas Speedway, as the Wood Brothers/JTG team loads up for the Lifelock 400. The Wood Brothers/JTG team will also be fielding a second entry for the race with Jon Wood set to make just his second NASCAR NEXTEL Cup start at the 1.5-mile track. The primary sponsor for Wood will be McKee Foods, parent company of Little Debbie snack cakes.
The No. 21 Little Debbie Ford driven by Schrader will use Chassis No. 213 for the event, which has several starts at intermediate race tracks in the past two years.
Schrader made the most of an excellent opportunity to move the No. 21 team further up into the owner point standings by virtue of his 26th place finish at Dover International Speedway last weekend. The Wood Brothers/JTG team now holds a 105-point lead over 36th place and is just one point shy of tying Kyle Petty’s No. 45 team for 34th place overall.
Schrader has six previous starts at the Kansas Speedway, with a best finish of 13th place coming just one year ago, driving for the Wood Brothers/JTG team. With two cars in practice to share notes and information, the Wood Brothers/JTG teams are looking to get both cars qualified solidly in the field for Sunday’s main event. And if the No. 21 car can keep inching up in the standings, the team will continue to solidify itself in safe territory as the year winds down.
WHAT THE TEAM HAS TO SAY:
Ken Schrader, Driver of the No. 21 Little Debbie Ford:
“We can really afford to work on our race setup on Friday, which is a great advantage—especially with Jon driving a second car for us. We’ll have the opportunity to compare notes, times and setup changes that most of the other teams take for granted. I’ve driven this chassis before and its handled pretty well in the past, so hopefully it’ll do the same this weekend.”
Michael McSwain, Crew Chief of the No. 21 Little Debbie Ford:
“I’m looking forward to working with Gene [Nead] and Jon and Kenny to come up with a great plan for both of our cars this weekend. Jon’s got a good chassis and we’ve run Ken’s chassis several times in the past with some success. Friday is probably going to be a pretty busy day for the guys. We’ve got to take advantage of utilizing both teams to come up with the right setup, get ‘em both qualified and in the field for Sunday. Then we can worry about the points again.”
