Toyota/Save Mart 350 - Rookie Saturday Quotes

Raybestos Rookie David Ragan is one of three drivers who will compete in tonight’s NASCAR Busch Series race at The Milwaukee Mile. Ragan discussed his busy day prior to practice this morning at Infineon Raceway.

DAVID RAGAN, No. 6 AAA FORD: WHAT ARE THE NEXT 24 HOURS GOING TO BE LIKE FOR YOU? “Well hopefully it’ll be good. We practice our Cup car first thing. That’s our first order of business. I want to pick up some more. I’d like to be about another three-quarters of a second faster once we get through today and then we’re in travel mode to Milwaukee. I feel like our Busch car should be good to go when we get there. Erik Darnell will be practicing it and he should be able to get it up to speed for us. On the way just try to rest a little bit and get back into the road course mode. It shouldn’t be bad. We’re going to be flying with Jack and on his plane. He’s a great pilot, got a nice plane and I’ll be able to sleep some. Get back here and be able to sleep in, about eight o’clock in the morning. It’s not going to be as bad as it could be. Hopefully the next 24 hours will be good.”

WHEN WILL YOU GET BACK TO SONOMA? “I don’t know, probably like one or two o’clock in the morning. We got back about two last week, or I was in bed about two. I would say with the time change, say if we get through with the race in Milwaukee around 11:30 and we get out of there at 12 midnight, that’s only 9:30, 10 o’clock over here. So the time change will definitely help us on the way back but it’s hurting us on the way out there because we have to leave so early.”

YOU ARE GOING TO MISS THE FINAL PRACTICE SESSION THIS AFTERNOON. HOW BIG OF A FACTOR IS THAT ON A ROAD COURSE? “Well if I could pick any track that I need more practice at it’d probably be this one so far. I really hate that I’m having to leave but on the side of things our teammate is on the pole. Carl has a good car so we’ve got that information so we know that our car is close. Yeah, we might need to fine-tune it a little bit but it’s going to be up to me making laps in the race. It’s not like a Michigan or something where we’re chasing tires, chasing the track. We know what we’ve got here. It’s just a matter of making it work.”

WILL SOMEONE ELSE DRIVE THE CAR IN PRACTICE THIS AFTERNOON? “I don’t think so. With the transmission and gear rules and all, they’re probably going to be busy checking all that stuff over trying to get a head start for tomorrow. I wouldn’t be opposed to someone like Boris Said or Biffle getting in and making a few laps. We know what we’ve got. Our teammates, we share information pretty good. It’s just a matter of me learning how to work with it.”

CAN YOU LEAN ON CARL AND SOME OF THE GUYS WHO HAVE MADE THE MILWAUKEE TRIP BEFORE TO GET SOME HELPFUL HINTS ABOUT WHAT TO EXPECT? “Oh yeah and definitely to talk to Carl or Blaney, Harvick and Denny Hamlin some of those guys who have done it over the last year or two. They know what’s going on. But like I said, just like any race weekend, you race as hard as you can and you rest when you can. The day on Sunday, being able to sleep in to 8:30, nine o’clock, that’ll probably be the biggest help.”
